Scaffold Checklist

  • Is the scaffold maintained and in good condition?

  • Is scaffold straight, level & clean (visual check)?

  • Is ground level stable (without excavations and mud) and Scaffold Standards supported on a firm base (soleboards & baseplates)?

  • Is scaffold secured to structure (compliant to AS 1576 - tied, every 3 bays, 2 lifts)?

  • Is scaffold situated with 6m of electrical lines/conductors, it should be insulated or the power disconnected (compliant to AS 1576)?

  • Has the scaffold been signed off/certified by a competent person?

  • Is a 'scafftag' attached to the scaffold?

Working Platforms

  • Are planks uniform and in good condition (compliant to AS 1576 - no splits, cracks, knots, bends, etc)?

  • Any platform missing planks should be barricaded and rectified so that there are no gaps in the working platform.

  • Edge protection is required on open working sides and ends of platforms over 2m (compliant AS 1576). Are kickboards and toeboards fitted to all decks?

Signs and Barricades

  • Are the signs placed top and bottom of scaffold during the alteration and dismantling (usually placed at access and egress point)?

  • Are signs for duties placed on platforms (Heavy Duty 675kg per bay allowing crane crew etc., to instantly recognise how much weight can be placed on the scaffold)?

  • Are adequate barricades supplied during erection, alteration or dismantling of scaffold (barricades should encompass entire work are)?

Tickets

  • Has training been provided for workers erecting scaffolds under 4m?<br>Note: that trainees must hold a training permit (there must be a ratio of 2 scaffolders to every 1 trainee

  • Is all work over 4m being completed by a ticketed scaffolder?

Bracing

  • Has bracing been supplied on traverse ends (dogleg end brace) compliant AS 1576?

  • Is face bracing fitted on both ends as well as every third bay along the face of the scaffold?

  • Does bracing extend to full height of the scaffold?

Access and Egress

  • Is access and egress supplied to all working platforms (all independent scaffolds must have access as well as egress from all working platforms to the ground)?

  • Are all ladder and stair access internal (fitted within a ladder/stair access tower - AS 1576)?

  • Is there access to scaffold from the structure (confirming to AS 1576.1)?

Mobile Scaffolds

  • Was mobile supplied complete with erection?

  • All scaffolds should have hand/mid rails regardless of height. Is mobile fitted with handrails and mid rails?

  • Wheels must be locked when in use. Are wheels locked when in use?

  • Is scaffold situated on firm surface (concrete, wood, etc.)

  • Is working deck complete (split decks are illegal) AS 1576

  • Is ladder supplied and fitted internally (all mobile over 2m must have a ladder fitted and compliant to AS 1576)?
