As of 6th April 2016, all dogs aged 8 weeks and over must now be microchipped. To be considered as microchipped, a microchip must have been implanted into the dog and the owners details recorded on an approved database. If the dog does not have a microchip or if your current details are not recorded on an approved database, the owner may be served a notice giving them 21 days to comply. If they do not comply with the notice, they could face a fine of up to £500 on conviction. Alternatively an enforcer, such as a dog warden, may seize the dog, microchip it and register the details and then recover the cost from the owner.
-
Is the dog microchipped and has the registration paperwork been seen?
-
You must ensure your dog is microchipped, please show your Neighbourhood Officer the registration paperwork as soon as possible.
