- 1.2 Backward bending of the back more than 5 degrees
- 1.3 Bending the head forwards or sideways more than 20 degrees

What current control Measures are being used?
- • Providing sufficient work space for the task to be done in an upright posture
- • Position all frequently used controls, equipment, materials and tools in front of the employee at waist height
- • Using a wider foot stance when reaching below knee
- • Provide sufficient work space for the employee’s whole body to move and turn
- • Place tools, equipment and materials directly in front of employee
- • Placing the objects used in the task closer to the person
- • Remove any barriers which prevent the object being handled close to the body
- • Do not work for extended periods
- • Perform as much work at waist height prior to installing in final overhead position
- • Provide sufficient work space for the employee to step around and face the object, controls or equipment
- • Ensure objects are positioned in front of employee
- • Using knee pads or mats for employee to position in crook kneeling to avoid squatting for long periods
- • Storing heavy/frequently used items at waist level
- • Sit rather than squat – provide stable seating
- • Alternating position regularly through swapping active hand (e.g. holding traffic signal)
- • Ensure sufficient room available for symmetrical stance
- • Reduce load weight
- • Transport load via mechanical means
- • Aligning the object being worked on with a normal (neutral) wrist posture
- • Design handles on objects, tools and controls to allow normal wrist posture
- • Use mechanical tools where possible
- • Storing heavy/frequently used items at waist level
- • Using wide stance and keeping heels on the ground while semi-squatting to raise and lower items from floor
- • Use mechanical lifting device
- • Two person lift
- • Consideration adequacy of storage arrangements
- • Reduce load width and size
- • Using trolley to carry tools and equipment
- • Alternate carrying hand regularly
- • Balance both sides of body by carrying 2 items
- • Reduce load weight and size
- • Making sure objects don’t need to be pushed, pulled or carried up steps or ramps
- • Position load or body close to reduce distance
- • Modify work layout
- • Using a hand-tool or both hands to grasp awkward items
- • Change packing of object to enable comfortable grip
- • Providing sufficient work space for the task to be done in a neutral position.
- • Remove any barriers which restrict or reduce access to the object
- • Support heavy equipment (e.g., suspend to take load etc)
- Other: please provide a description
-
What addtional controls should be considered?
-
Provide a breif description of the of the hazard .
- 2.1 Lifting, lowering or carrying heavy tools
- 2.2 Sudden or unexpected forces
- 2.3 Pushing or pulling objects that are hard to move
- 2.4 Exerting force at the limit of the grip span
-
Provide details of the controls currently used
- • Storing heavy/frequently used items at waist level
- • Using wide stance to improve control of equipment
- • Reduce size, weight or alignment
- • Getting a co-worker to assist with the task.
- • Positioning employee close to item
- • Alternating tools, controls and equipment to reduce grasping at limit
- Other: please provide details
-
What additonal controls should be considered?
-
Provide a breif description of the hazard:
- 3.1 Vibration
- 3.2 High or low temperatures, radiant heat, high humidity,
- 3.3 Wearing protective clothing while working in hot conditions
- 3.4 Wearing thick clothing while working in cold conditions (e.g. gloves)
- 3.5 Handling very cold or frozen objects
- 3.6 Employees are working in hot conditions and are not used to it
-
What control measures are currently being used (please provide a breif description)
- • Adjusting any vibration damping mechanisms in the plant and vehicle
- • Use anti vibration gloves
- • Purchase tools and equipment with minimal vibration and ensure they are services regularly
- • Ensure suitably appropriate PPE is worn
- • Ensure adequate breaks are taken to re-hydrate in hot environments
- • Ensure layered clothing is worn under PPE in cold environments
- Other: Please provide details
-
What additional controls should be considered?
