1.0 Records

  • 1.1 Does the company have a section in their manuals, outlining the rules in order to ensure the health and safety of their employees?

  • 1.2 Does the company have records of safety training with regards to employees moving around the airport?

  • 1.3 Does the company have records of safety training with regards to employees moving around parked aircraft?

  • 1.4 Does the company have records of safety training with regards to, removing and replacing the engine and airframe inlet covers, operating the aircraft doors and moving about the cabin?

2.0 Procedures

  • 2.1 Is there a procedure of acceptance by the cleaner of the aircraft in its current state of airworthiness before cleaning is commenced?

  • 2.2 Does the company have procedures in place to ensure that the safety of the parked aircraft is not jeopardized during the process of cleaning?

  • 2.3 Is there a hand over process from the cleaner to the operator of the aircraft to ensure the airworthiness of the aircraft?

  • 2.4 Is there a procedure where a line manager or supervisor checks the aircraft after cleaning for potential damage or any other issue that can pose a risk to the safety of the aircraft?

  • 2.5 Is there a list of reportable incidents which the cleaning company can reference?

  • 2.6 Is there a procedure to report to the operator of the aircraft any incident that took place during the cleaning process?

  • 2.7 Is there a procedure to ensure all relevant chemicals, cleaning tools, ladders, personal protective equipment and rags were removed from the aircraft after cleaning and before the next flight?

3.0 Soaps and Chemicals

  • 3.1 Are the soaps and chemicals used approved for the use on aircraft skins, exposed surfaces, windows, propellers and exhausts?

  • 3.2 Is there a procedure to ensure that these soaps and chemicals will not pose a risk to the operation of the aircraft after cleaning? (Soaps or chemicals in engine intakes or exhausts.)

  • 3.3 Are these soaps and/or chemicals biodegradable?

  • 3.4 Are the soaps and chemicals disposed of in such a way that it does not pose a risk to the environment or health of airport staff?

4.0 Safety of the cleaners around the aircraft?

  • 4.1 Is the aircraft chocked while cleaning is taking place?

  • 4.2 Is there a procedure to prevent inadvertent starting of engines, safety of the cleaners around around the propellers and the operation of de-ice and anti-ice equipment which could pose a risk to the safety of the cleaner?

  • 4.3 Is there a procedure to ensure that cleaners wear safety harnesses in case of cleaning the aircraft at heights of 2 meters or more?

  • 4.4 Are cleaners provided with the relevant Personal Protective Equipment?

  • 4.5 Are the cleaners provided with the relevant Protective Equipment for Ramp Safety in the form of high visibility jackets and hearing protection?
