All 4 SCBA’s, vehicle assigned face piece, and RIT pack shall be inspected.

Face Piece

  • Face piece is free of dirt, cracks, tears, and holes.

Back Frame and Harness

  • Harness straps and back frame are free from cuts, tears, abrasion, or heat damage.

  • Harness straps are fully extended.

Cylinder

  • Gauge is not damaged.

  • Cylinder is free of cracks, dents, and heat damage.

  • Cylinder is fully charged.

Hoses

  • Hoses are free of cuts, abrasions, bubbles, cracks, and heat damage

  • Fittings are tight and are not leaking.

Check that the regulator and face piece can hold a negative pressure.

  • Close the cylinder valve and purge any air from the SCBA.

  • Keep the bypass valve open.

  • Attach the regulator to the face piece.

  • Hold face piece against your face and inhale until the face piece starts to collapse against the face.

  • Hold your breath for 10 seconds.

  • Negative pressure should be maintained for 10 seconds.

Check function of regulator.

  • Push the buttons on the side of the regulator to ensure that the regulator is shut off.

  • Close bypass valve.

  • Open the cylinder valve.

  • Check for LED lights on both sides of the HUD.

  • Attach the regulator to the face piece.

  • Don face piece and inhale.

  • Ensure that the speaker is working.

  • Push the regulator release buttons and ensure the air flow stops.

Check function of the control module, power module, HUD, and low pressure warning device.

  • Ensure that all lights are flashing green.

  • Ensure that the pressure gauge and LCD display are within 200 psi of the cylinder gauge.

  • Test the PASS system.

  • Allow the control module to remain motionless for 20 seconds.

  • Verify that the buddy lights and HUD lights are flashing red.

  • Reset the PASS by pressing the green button twice within one seconds.

  • Close the cylinder valve fully.

  • Slowly open the bypass valve.

  • Ensure that the low pressure alarm goes off at approximately 1575 psi.

  • Flashing red LED must be displayed on the HUD.

  • Low pressure warning bell must sound.

  • All buddy lights must be flashing red.

  • Pneumatic light must illuminate.

  • Close bypass valve and reset regulator.

  • Loosen all straps and return to service.
