Items for Inspection

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

  • Has the operator been instructed in the safe operation of this type of Boom Lift?

  • Ensure Annual Inspection has been completed within the last 13 months.

  • Labels. In place, secure & legible.

  • Ensure limit switches are properly secured with no signs of visible damage and movement is not obstructed.

  • Hydraulic Pumps. Tight fittings, hoses & bolts. No damage, missing parts or leaks.

  • Hydraulic Tank. Filler cap secure & no damage or evidence of hydraulic leakage.

  • Hydraulic Oil. Level between minimum & maximum marks on site glass

  • Battery. No damage, tight connections, adequate fluid levels. Clean terminals and cable ends.

  • Engine Oil. Level in the "safe" zone. Ensure oil change interval has not been exceeded.

  • Engine Fuel Leaks. No damage or leaks from tank, shutoff valve & hoses and fittings.

  • Fuel Tank. Filler cap is secure & no visible damage or fuel leakage.

  • Engine fuel level

  • Wheel/Tire Assembly. Check all tires for damage, wear & proper alignment.

  • Manuals & Required Documents. In storage box, in good condition & legible.

  • Floorboard free of debris and garbage

  • Railings and Gate. Ensure all railings are properly positioned and secured.

  • Ensure footswitch is in good working order and has not been modified, disabled or blocked.

  • Platform Control Console. Switches in neutral position & secure. No damage or missing parts.

  • Boom. No damage or missing parts. No deformation or cracks in welds. Tight hoses and bolts & no leaks.

  • Wear Pads. No damage or missing parts. Bolts tightened.

  • Lanyard Attachment Anchorage. Attachment rings secure & no damage.

  • Personal Fall Arrest Equipment Inspected and Training Completed

  • Presence of fire extinguishers

  • Oil & fuel filter clean.

AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE

  • All-function motion alarm should sound while operating any boom and drive function.

  • Turn main power disconnect switch to off position. Result: Aerial platform functions should not operate.

  • Push in Red emergency stop button. Result: Engine should shut down and aerial platform functions should not operate.

  • Test Horn

  • Test Brakes: Drive forward, then reverse at full speed. Remove your foot from footswitch. Result: Aerial platform should come to an instant and abrupt stop

  • Outriggers/stabilizers operate properly.

  • Upper drive control interlock mechanism is functional (i.e., foot pedal, spring lock, or two hand controls).

JOBSITE INSPECTION

  • Floor conditions: Holes or drop-offs, ditches, floor obstructions, overhead obstructions, electrical cords, wind or weather conditions, inadequate surface support

  • Perform a thorough jobsite inspection prior to operating the aerial platform, to identify potential hazards in your work area.
