Hours of Service: Make sure you log out each night. Complete the full 10 hours off between shifts. Plan your time accordingly so that you don’t exceed 11 hours driving or 14 hours worked in a day.

Pre-Trip Inspections: Always perform a pre-trip inspection, start and end your pre-trip in the same spot on the truck each day, complete a vehicle inspection report, make sure you have an Emergency Response Guidebook in your vehicle. Check hoses and gaskets for leaks. Don't forget to check your fire extinguisher.

Following Distance: Maintain proper following distance at all times. Keep space around your vehicle and don't get boxed. Leave yourself an out so you can react if/when necessary.
