Section 1 General Safety, Health and Wellbeing

  • Are you satisfied that all BRM personnel have undergone the main site Safety Induction?

  • Are you satisfied that operatives have the correct and also sufficient task RAMS?

  • Are you satisfied that an appropriate BRM Point of Work Risk Assessment has been completed and relevant personnel briefed?

  • Are you satisfied that if excavating all available utility drawings are at the point of work?

  • Are you satisfied that a sufficient Permit to Dig has been completed?

  • Are you satisfied that all excavations / trenches are appropriately supported and signed / guarded to prevent unauthorised access?

  • Are you satisfied that there are the correct construction drawings on site?

  • Lifting - Are you satisfied that lifting equipment used on the activity is tested and valid certificates are on site?

  • HAVS - Are you satisfied that if vibrating tools are being used, such as breakers, drills (including hired equipment) etc are being controlled and monitored?

  • Plant – Are you satisfied that all plant being used on site is of an acceptable standard?

  • Plant – Are you satisfied that all plant being used on site has been inspected before use?

  • Welfare - Are you satisfied that the provided welfare facilities are sufficient, clean, tidy

  • Are you satisfied that the working area is tidy (no rubbish, trip/fall hazards, waste removed etc)?

  • Are you satisfied that where manual handling is an issue, a specific manual handling risk assessment has been carried out?

  • Are you satisfied that operatives undertaking the activity have had adequate manual handling training?

  • Are you satisfied that first aid kits are available on site and they are complete?

  • Are you satisfied that there are an adequate number of appointed first aiders for the work area and operatives know who they are and how to contact them?

  • Are you satisfied that all personnel have the correct PPE for the work they are

  • Are you satisfied that adequate fire fighting equipment is available on site?

  • Are you satisfied that suitable and sufficient handrail is located around open excavations?

  • If operatives are entering deep excavations are you satisfied that the sides are suitably supported, battered or stepped and inspection records have been completed?

Section 2 Traffic Management/ NRSWA (Chapter 8)

  • Are you satisfied that hazard warning beacons are working on vehicles involved.

  • Are you satisfied that advance warning signs are set out correctly & are in good order?

  • Are you satisfied that cones are set out correctly & are in good order?

  • If temporary traffic lights used are they in good order and suitably located?

  • Is a safety zone set up around the work area (physical barrier)?

  • Is Works Access & Egress clearly visible?

  • If cone lights are fitted do they work?

  • Does the Traffic Management provide a safe route for pedestrians and public vehicles?

Human Behaviours

  • Do all operatives understand the Behavioural Safety requirements?

  • Do all operatives consider others safety whilst working?

  • Have you personally checked that operators have got their valid cards SWQR Cards, NPORS, SMART Awards, CSCS/EUSR, PIA etc?

  • Do operatives believe that safety is their responsibility?

  • Do operatives challenge unsafe behavior's?

Environmental

  • Are you satisfied that COSHH assessments are available for all substances used in undertaking?

  • Are containers holding hazardous liquid bunded to 110% capacity?

  • Is fuel stored in correct fuel containers?

  • Are controls in place for dust suppression? Is mud on roads being controlled?

  • Is noise nuisance being controlled?

  • Are all substance containers correctly labelled?

  • Are drip trays in use for Static Equipment i.e. generators?

  • Are emergency spill kits available on site?

  • If you are working adjacent to a watercourse are suitable precautions in place?

  • Are you satisfied that work is being completed in accordance with the client’s specification?

  • Are you satisfied that work is being completed in accordance with the NJUG Guidelines for the Planning, Installation and Maintenance of Utility Apparatus in Proximity to Trees?

  • Have you checked that all testing & measuring equipment has got current calibration dates attached on site?

  • Is appropriate care being given to avoid damage to 3rd party property?
