START-UP CHECKLIST FOR CAT 1 THERMAL OXIDISER

  • It is important that these tasks are always carried out. Whoever checks and signs each task shall be responsible for ensuring that it has been completed correctly

  • Enter the date and time the Thermal Oxidiser is being started up

  • Select which Thermal Oxidiser is being started up

  • 1. Ensure no isolations or maintenance work is being carried out on all machinery involved with the line to be started from raw material through to cake discharge screws to the line trailer. Before starting any machinery, ensure the runner has walked around and checked that no work is taking place on or around machinery that is to be started I e painting, general cleaning etc. In the event of a restart after a shutdown, due to a breakdown, ensure the isolations have been removed and the electrician / fitter has checked direction / rotation of machinery once the repair has been carried out, also ensure a walk around of machinery to be restarted, is carried out by the runner.

  • 2. Confirm with the maintenance department that no isolations are in place on the equipment to be started (Scan QR code at the isolation bench to confirm & signed for by a maintenance department member)

  • Sign off for No. 2

  • 3. Check that the valves from the Insertion pump are set in the correct directions and the water feed valve on the boiler is open

  • 4. Check the water pump that should be filling the boiler is on and check the water levels (signed by the runner)

  • 5. Check that the Crown valves on top of the boiler are open and drains closed

  • 6. Check that the blow down valve is closed

  • 7. Open the zero flash valve

  • 8. Check that the Fire Fighting switch is set to Auto on the Oxidiser panel. Check the Process Air Fan & Combustion Air Fan switches are set to Auto. Check that the Foul Air Damper switch is set to Auto (signed by the runner)

  • 9. Check that automatic steam quench valves are in correct positions and drain the steam quench line

  • 10. Check the Gas valve to the pilot light is open (signed by the runner)

  • 11. Check that valve on bottom of the collector vessel is shut (signed by the runner)

  • 12. Check that the Incinerator Plant switch and Burner switch are set to Auto (Oxidiser 2) Manual (Oxidiser 1) (signed by the runner)

  • 13. Check that steam vent pressure is set to 9.7bar on both oxidisers (signed by the runner)

  • 14. Warm the combustion chamber in low fire for 2 hours when starting from cold. (signed by the runner)

  • 15. Put it into high fire. (signed by the runner)

  • 16. Check the Integration Panel valves positions are all correct for processing the foul air. (signed by the runner)
