  • This inspection checklist is provided by the Nikau Contractors Health and Safety team as a template for assessing Nikau office areas. Users may need to amend it to fully address the specific requirements of the area that is being inspected

  • If you cannot answer a question, have any queries or require further advice contact your Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager before proceeding. Once completed, this inspection form should be made readily available to all staff within the area/s

  • Note: If using the form for a suite of workshops, please indicate the room number where there is an issue

Site Walk

  • Are all accessways clear?

  • Are exclusion zones/hoardings up and secure?

  • Are there any tools lying around?

  • Is all the waste PPE disposed of appropriately

  • Is there any slip Hazards?

  • Are there any trip hazards Including cavity holes?

  • Is there anything hanging down?

  • Are all the power leads coiled up?

  • Are the gas/oxy bottles turned off?

  • Is water turned off and/or fire extinguishers put away?

  • Are all keys out of all plant and equipment?

  • Have you taken progress photos of working areas including anything safely secure or unsecure for records?

  • Is there adequate signage in working areas?

  • Is there danger tape being used correctly, is it tight and secure?

  • Dust Suppression?

Signage

  • Is there adequate safety signage in working areas?

  • Is an updated hazardous board displayed on the exterior of applicable access doors?

  • Is emergency instruction signage in place?

First AID

  • Are there sufficient trained first aiders (1/20 staff) available or on call?

  • Are first aid kits (appropriate for the work area) readily available?

  • Are first aid kits checked Weekly to ensure that they are kept well stocked, with contents in good condition?

Fire Safety

  • Are potential ignition sources eliminated or minimised?

  • Is all Gas / Oxy turned off ?

  • Is the water supply off/ fire extinguishers put away at the end of the day?

Hygiene Control

  • Are there adequate washing facilities, with soap and towels/dryers?

  • Are there facilities available within or near this area where people can eat and/or drink, and do these facilities include an adequate supply of wholesome water for drinking or filling kettles etc?

Plant Machinery

  • Have all staff using plant equipment received suitable instruction and where necessary, training?

  • Is plant suitably placed to avoid overcrowding and anchored (where applicable) to ensure stability?

  • Has all plant equipment pre checks been filled out?

  • Is the plant safely parked?

  • Has the training matrix been checked for all staff training?

Storage

  • Are cabinets and shelving uncluttered and securely fixed in place?

  • Are heavy items stored on/in low shelves or cupboards?

Spills and Leaks

  • Is there an approved spill/leak emergency response plan for hazardous substances?

  • If so, Is there evidence that the spill/leak emergency response plan has been practised in the last year?

Waste Mangement

  • Are rubbish receptacles emptied regularly?

  • Are general rubbish receptacles free from hazardous wastes?

  • Is all hazardous waste transferred to an approved waste disposal contractor in accordance with the Nikau standard?

  • Once the inspection is completed, those items which require remedial attention should be addressed and signed off once completed. Copies of the inspection form and requests for remedial action should be retained on file
