1 Personal Protective Equipment & Ramp Equipment

  • Does the Team Leader check all staff for PPE prior to aircraft arrival / engagement? All staff must be wearing all PPE required for their task, standard PPE included safety boots, ear defenders, Hi-Viz and eye protection.

  • Are employees using electronic devices (PED's)? No Personal electronic devices are to be used within the re-fuelling zones around the aircraft.

  • Are there fluid leaks / slip or trip hazards on the ground? Any sign of leaked fluids or trip hazards must be reported to airfield operations and equipment and personnel kept clear to prevent increasing contamination

  • Have all pre-use checks been carried out?

  • Have relevant fluid checks been carried out as per SASM-GHO-005 Winter Operations De-Icing Anti-Icing Manual

4 deicing procedure

  • Are vehicles driven at walking speed? Max speed - Walking pace around aircraft

  • Do Staff follow a systematic, logic sequence to cover all area of the aircraft?

  • Are wings horizontal stabilisers and elevators - Spray from the leading edge to the trailing edge and from the rear?

  • Are Vertical surfaces - Started at the top and then worked down?

  • Has the spraying of Landing gears and wheelbase been Kept to a minimum and not sprayed directly onto wheels, brakes, bearings, cables, electrical connectors, or other equipment?

  • Engines, if the manufacturer permits the use of de-icing fluid, has the spray directly into the engine core been avoided?

  • Do Staff ensure they are safe and the safety of passenger/crew is also observed?

  • Is a no contact operation carried out at all times?

  • Once the procedure is over, has this been communicated to the crew and has the rig been removed from the ERA and parked in a safe location?
