Barrier

  • Is a pool barrier separating the pool from the house and adjoining properties at all times?

  • Is the pool barrier at least 1200mm high all the way around?

  • If a boundary fence forms part of the pool barrier, is it at least 1800mm high?

  • Is the gap between the bottom of the pool barrier and the finished ground level no greater than 100mm?

  • Is the pool barrier in well maintained and in good condition?

  • Are the non-climbable zones clear of any handholds or footholds, objects or plants that will facilitate climbing?

  • If perforated or mesh fencing has been used, are the holes 13mm or less?

  • Are all vertical or near vertical rails on the fence less than 100mm apart?

  • If a wall of the house forms part of the barrier, is the wall without windows, doors or other openings through which a young child could gain access at any time?

Gate and latch fittings

  • Does the gate swing freely, close and latch by itself from any open position?

  • Does the gate open outwards, away from the pool?

  • Is the gate latch located 1500mm above finished ground level, or if located inside the gate, 1200mm above finished ground level and at least 150mm below the top of the gate if a hand hole is not provided or at least 150mm below the edge of any hand hole if provided and covered by an approved shield?

  • Do any gate hinges with a horizontal top surface depth greater than 10mm protrude in the 900mm NCZs 1 and 2?

Pool area

  • Is there an appropriate warning sign including the details of resuscitation (CPR) techniques in the immediate vicinity of the pool area and which can be easily read?

  • Is the fence clear from any objects such as BBQ's, trees, rocks, deck chairs, etc. that could help a small child climb over the barrier? (300mm NCZ 4 on inside of fence)

Skimmer Box

  • Is the approved skimmer box required to have a child resistant lid?

  • Does the approved skimmer box meet the dimension requirements as per AS1926.3 5 - Skimmer boxes?

  • Is the skimmer box fitted with an auxiliary outlet?

  • Do the outlet points have secure covers to prevent a child becoming trapped?
