Fence/Barrier

  • Type of Pool Fence

  • Is there a pool fence or other child-resistant barrier separating the pool from the house and adjoining properties and public spaces at all times?

  • Is the pool fence at least 1200mm high all the way around?

  • If a boundary fence forms part of the pool barrier, is the fence 1800mm high inside the pool area?

  • Is the gap between the bottom of the fence and the ground less than 100mm?

  • Are all vertical or near vertical rails on the fence less than 100mm apart?

  • Is the distance between any horizontal rails less than 900mm apart?

  • If using perforated or mesh fencing, are the holes 13mm or less?

  • Is the pool fence well maintained and in a good state of repair as an effective and safe barrier? (eg, no holes, broken rails)

  • If the wall of the house forms part of the barrier, is the wall without windows, doors or other openings through which a young child could gain access at any time?

  • WINDOWS opening into pool area restricted: <br>If sill is <1800 from ground, window must be either:<br>Covered by bars or metal screen, openings in bars or screen must not be >100mm and must require the use of a tool to remove<br>OR<br>Window opening fixed so it cannot be opened any more than 100mm

Gate

  • Does the gate swing freely, close and latch by itself from any open position?

  • Does the gate open outwards, away from the pool?

  • Is there a minimum of 900mm between the gate hinges where the hinges are exposed and have horizontal element less than 10mm

  • Is the gate latch working well so that the gate is secure and, once closed, can’t be pulled open?

  • Is the latch shielded and have a gap less than 10mm

  • Is the gate latch 1500mm above ground level or, if located inside the gate, 1200mm above ground level and at least 150mm below the top of the gate (if there is no hand hole) and covered by an approved shield?

  • For and Indoor pools, is the door latching release mechanism above 1500mm and the door self closing to fully latched position

Around the pool

  • Is there a current resuscitation sign that is ledgible from within all parts of the pool area?

  • Are there any objects or structures, such as Retaining walls, BBQs, trees, rocks, shrubs, pot plants, tap fittings and deckchairs, located within the 900mm NCZ and additional 300mm clear area on the exterior of the pool fence that could facilitate climbing?

  • Are there any objects or structures, such as Retaining walls,BBQs, trees, rocks, shrubs, pot plants, tap fittings and deckchairs, located within the 300mm clear area on the internal of the pool fence that could facilitate climbing?

  • Are there any Intersecting pool barriers within the 900mm NCZ greater than 50mm width that could facilitate climbing

  • Are there any permanent body of water acting as a swimming pool barrier

  • Is there a conductive earthing system bonded to all conductive equipment (eg. metal rails, diving board, reinforced concrete) in the pool area to prevent electric shock?

  • Are there any overhanging balcony's adjacent to the pool area within the 900mm NCZ

  • Is the pool skimmer box cover designed and installed in such a way as to prevent a child entrapment?

  • Has the pool filtration system been installed to provide water circulation and backwash discharge in accordance with AS1926.3-2010

Strength and Rigidty

  • Conduct strength and rigidity checks to vertical openings - apply 150N. 105mm diameter metal cone should not be able to pass through opening.

  • Conduct strength and rigidity checks to posts and footings - apply 330N of force at 1200mm height - no damage or loosening?

  • Conduct strength and rigidity to rails/horizontals - apply 330N of force - no deformation or breakage?
