• All hotel emergency escape lighting systems should be regularly tested and properly maintained to an appropriate standard. Most existing systems will need to be manually tested However Some modern systems have self-testing facilities that reduce routine checks to a minimum. Depending on the type of installation in the hotel, you should you be able to carry out most of the routine tests yourself . The Test method will vary If you are unsure how to carry out tests you should contact your local electrical supplier . It is the responsibility of the maintenance manager to ensure Emergency Lighting is maintained in good working order.
  Because of possible failure, tests will be carried out at times of least risk. Emergency lighting systems will be checked regularly for cleanliness. Battery banks and generators will be checked following manufacturers instructions. Monthly Test In House All emergency lighting systems should be tested monthly This is a short function test in accordance with BS EN 50172:2004/BS 5266-8:2004 The duration of the test should be sufficient to ensure that the luminaire operates correctly, whilst minimising any any damage to the system components e.g. Lamps, Battery. This is often termed a flick test and can be completed quickly to ensure there is a changeover mains supply to battery supply . This test can be completed over a number of days within a monthly period instead of in one go as time permits. All luminaire failures by way of change over or lamp failure should be recorded in the appropriate record file as an action and all repairs completed without delay and signed off. Any emergency light failures identified must be resolved immediately either in house or by an approved contractor and on completion of the remedial work, records kept on file. Cost & Budget are not an issue when Health & Safety is compromised.
