Environmental Hints:

  • What are the potential environmental impacts on the project at this time? Tips: -Look for specific impact related to current activity. -Environmental receptors: drains, inlets, water bodies, natural areas, wetlands -Review that day's PTP for potential impacts and mitigation techniques -Were impacts discussed in PEP or Peer review?

  • Are all soil & erosion control operational controls currently in place and maintained? Tips: -Look for silt fence, inlets, sediment traps, basins, roadways, wheel washes -Look for wear/tear, soil exiting the project, significant diet on roadways -Check Environmental Mgmt Programs for controls

  • Do you know procedures in the event of an environmental release? Tips: -Ask "where is the spill kit located?" "Do you know how to use the materials within?" -"Who do you contact when you find a spill or uncontained material?" -"Do you know where the environmentally sensitive areas are on the project?" -"Do you know the procedures for a spill into a drain or body of water?"

  • Are there any energy or water conservation measures in place on the project? Tips: -Signage - Turn off water (project) or reduce energy use (project office) -Look for equipment left idling, inefficient use of heating/cooling in the building -Is there guidance for efficient site lighting after hours? -Are there water reuse opportunities? Alternative dust control measures?

  • What are the current waste diversion measures at this stage of the project? Tips: -Ordering steel/pipe/wood at correct length -Reduction in concrete spillage/reuse of spill piles -Proper storage of materials to prevent destruction, degradation, soiling, mold -Ask to look at the PEP, or Waste Management Plan (ESP for LEEDS projects)

  • Are all pieces of machinery and equipment inspected and in good working order? Tips: -Ask to see Skanska vehicle inspections -Ask subcontractors for their inspection procedures -Are there fuel efficiency standards for project equipment?
