  • Every home is provided with a site specific Second Floor Railing Plan indicating the areas where guardrails must be installed and leading edge zone identification.

Leading Edge Zone

  • Leading edge zone must be identified and marked prior to the installation of any guardrails.

  • We have identified our leading edge as any area 4 feet from any edge.

  • Leading Edge line can be a solid or dotted spray painted line.

  • Employee demonstrates understanding of leading edge zone identification and marking?

Guardrails

  • Posts must be spaced a maximum of 8 feet on center.

  • Install posts at joist, beam or rim board using 2-3 16D nails at the bottom and top cord of the joist, beam or rim board.

  • The lower guardrail must be installed at 21 inches from the subfloor.

  • The upper guardrail must be installed at 42 inches from the subfloor.

  • Immediately after the installation of all guardrails and before snapping starts. All employees must sign the Second Floor Railing Plan to acknowledge that all guardrails are in place per the Second Floor Railing Plan and leading edge zone has been identified.

  • Does Employee understand the process for installing the guardrail system?

Framers

  • Before any framing can begin on the second story, any employee who will be involved in the framing process must sign the Second Floor Railing Plan BEFORE any work begins to acknowledge that all guardrails and leading edge zone indicators are in place per the floor plan.

  • Guardrails can not be removed until the wall is ready to stand.

  • Employee understands procedures framers must follow ?
