1. Fire Exits

  • Are all fire exits clearly marked and easily visible?

  • Are exits free from obstructions such as furniture, storage, or other items?

  • Do exit doors open easily from the inside without the use of a key?

  • Are the exit doors in good condition and do they operate smoothly?

  • Are exit routes well-lit and is the signage illuminated (if applicable)?

2. Fire Doors

  • Do fire doors close properly and fully latch without assistance?

  • Are fire doors not propped open?

  • Are fire doors free from damage, holes, or wear and tear that could compromise their integrity?

  • Are the seals and hinges in good condition?

3. Escape Routes

  • Are all escape routes clear of obstructions and clearly marked?

  • Are escape routes appropriately signposted with directional signs?

  • Are floor markings visible and in good condition?

  • Are there no slip, trip, or fall hazards present along escape routes?

4. Fire Safety Signage

  • Are fire safety signs placed at strategic locations and clearly visible?

  • Are signs unobstructed by decorations, equipment, or other objects?

  • Are the signs in good condition, not faded, and securely fastened?

5. Storage Areas

  • Are storage areas kept tidy and organized, with no flammable materials stored near ignition sources?

  • Are combustible materials stored in appropriate containers?

  • Are flammable liquids stored in approved cabinets?

  • Are storage areas separated from main work areas by fire-resistant barriers?

6. Housekeeping and Flammable Materials

  • Are storage and work areas clean and free of waste materials?

  • Are flammable materials properly labeled and stored?

  • Are all potential ignition sources controlled and monitored?

8. Fire Marshals

  • Is there an adequate number of fire marshals designated for each area? (minimum one on site per shift)

  • Have fire marshals received LLA fire warden training and do they understand their responsibilities?

  • Are fire marshals easily identifiable during an emergency? (ask for a response)

9. Fire Alarm and Manual Call Points

  • Are all detectors not covered within the retail area or storages areas?

  • Are manual call points strategically placed and easily accessible?

  • Are manual call points clearly marked, visible and in good working condition?

10. Refuge Areas

  • Are refuge areas easily accessible and clearly marked and instructions of use in place?

  • Are refuge areas equipped with necessary communication devices, such as intercoms?

  • Are they free from obstructions and accessible to people with disabilities?

11. Electrical and Lighting

  • Is Portable Apppiance Testing been carried out and in date? (visual inspection of area)

  • Are all extension leads and sockets being used safely and no evidence of overloading?

  • Is there sufficient lighting to all areas of the inspection?

  • Are emergency lights tested regularly to ensure they are in good working condition? If yes please confirm by whom LLA or Third Party?
