Part A - MINOR STORAGE<br><br>Definition of Minor Storage for factories or workshop areas: <br><br><250L OR <500L per 500m2 if Pkg Grp III, per AS 1940 – 2004 Flammable Liquids Code <br>Note: If quantity greater than Minor Storage above refer to Part B – Package Storage (page 2)

KEY REQUIREMENTS per AS 1940 2017

  • Storage NOT in proximity to heating or ignition sources

  • Ignition sources controlled per AS 2430.3.3. <br>If volume: <br>> 100L closed containers<br>>25L decanting <br>>5L open containers, occasional use <br>>1L open containers, continuous use

  • Containers kept CLOSED when not in use

  • Location of storage must not jeopardize escape from area e.g. not near door or stairs

  • Good housekeeping e.g. empty containers removed, no combustible waste material in area & any spillages cleaned up immediately

  • No incompatible chemicals allowed in proximity (refer MSDS’s)

  • Fire extinguisher and warning signage if > 100 Liters e.g. Danger – Flammable Liquids – No Ignition Sources

  • Solid stable storage eg cabinet, shelving or racking suitable for purpose & in good condition

  • Spill trays or bunding to contain any leakage

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) readily accessible, as required by MSDS’s

  • If decanting, earthing / bonding & ventilation adequate, fire extinguishers within 5m

  • Personnel trained in hazards & safe work procedures

COMMON REQUIREMENTS e.g. Minor Storage & Packaging Areas Updated for VIC & WHS Regs

  • Reg: 413 - Unauthorized access prevented e.g., site or departmental access controls

  • 421 - DG storage protected from impact e.g., barriers if vehicular traffic

  • 434 - Spill kit (e.g., AS1940 2.3.4) accessible always (could be shared with other storage areas)

  • 438 – MSDS’s readily accessible for all DG’s e.g., in vicinity of use

  • 442 - Register of DG’s maintained & up to date

  • COP 39.3 - Quantity of DG’s kept to minimum required e.g., Limited to one day’s supply

  • - Decanting only in designated bunded area or spill trays

  • - All containers labelled & in approved containers e.g., per AS 1940

  • - Any recent incidents involving DG’s? If so, please specify
