Assessment

  • For workers that are new to Pepsico ANZ and are required to operate Powered Inductrial Truck as part of their job role, operators will be assessed as Competent or not yet Competent to the Lift SafeDriving Behaviours (regardless of holding a valid license)

  • Current valid forklift / Powered Industrial Truck license

  • Forklift is parked in a designated area with tynes tilted to ground ready for battery / bottle change, correct position for safe removal of battery / bottle

  • Completes pre-operation check and documents, visual inspection of battery or gas bottle prior to use

  • Can list / describe hazards associated with battery or gas bottle changing

  • Wearing correct personal protective equipment for activity (gloves, apron, face shield / goggles)

  • Operator is able to identify safety equipment in the battery / gas bottle area and why it is required (safety shower, MSDS, spill kit, extinguisher)

  • Selects correct battery including charging order

Battery Change

  • RF unit is turned off before the battery is disconnected

  • Visually inspect the condition of cable and plugs before disconnecting

  • Outline the steps to be taken for defective cables and plugs ie Tag out and Escalate

  • Magnet activated and equipment arranged appropriately to allow for the safe change-over of the battery without the battery getting stuck or equipment damaged

  • Watering system is disconnected from the charged battery and connected properly to battery requiring charge

  • The transfer equipment is used to correctly ensure no manual handling of the battery

  • Safety locking devices are in place to stop the battery moving from either the re-charger or the forklift

Gas Bottle Change

  • Correct PPE is worn when refuelling –Gloves, safety glasses, cotton dust coat

  • Inspect hose and equipment prior to use, and ensure it is a good condition prior to use,

  • Outline the steps to be taken for u/s equipment and do not use

  • Ensure gas shut off safety lanyard is in place and operational

  • Ensure bulk gas storage vessel test and inspection is current

  • Ensure forklift gas cylinder test and inspection is current

  • Ensure lighting in area is operational at night and adequate

  • Make sure to turn the gas bottle valve off before disconnecting gas line

  • Unfasten the Security clips that hold the Gas bottle

  • Manoeuvre the bottle so that it is accessible to fill from its bracket (try to avoid lifting the bottle, as once it is full it is heavy)

  • Connect gas line to bottle valve, Open olive valve, Open line valve press start in gas line compartment

  • When liquid starts coming from olive valve close line valve, Olive valve and press stop gas line compartment in that order

  • Remove gas line from bottle checking for leaks both visually and audibly

  • Place valve cap back on

  • Open gas bottle valve

  • Refasten security clip that hold the gas bottle

  • Operating cabinet must be closed after use

  • Ensure all equipment is stored in a safe manner to avoid trip hazards
