Requirements for Instruction, Drills & Safety Orientation

  • Person in charge of a vessel must ensure that each crew member participates in drills & receives instructions once a week

  • 1.) Fighting a fire in the engine room and other locations on board the vessel, including how to:
    a. Operate fire extinguishing equipment on board the vessel
    b. Stop mechanical ventilation systems
    c. Operate fuel shutoff valve

  • 2.) Activate the general alarm

  • 3.) Reporting inoperative shutoff valve

Weekly Maintenance Procedures for Fire Pump

  • 1.) Check fire pumps, fuel, oil and the condition of the pull string:

  • 2.) Start the pump and make sure fire pump is not seized up and/or catches prime; Check the suction hose and discharge hose for leaks and other problems:

  • 3.) In weather conditions below freezing, make sure pump is drained or has RV antifreeze in the pump:

  • IF THERE IS ANY ISSUE WITH THE FIRE-FIGHTING EQUIPMENT, NOTIFY A COMPANY SUPERVISOR OR THE BOAT CAPTAIN IMMEDIATELY.
