Front of site

  • Front of site:

Ask a driver to explain where their emergency assembly / muster point is located.

  • Front of site:

Ask a driver to explain the wheel chocking process at Arla - and its purpose.

TRAILERS' WHEELS NEED TO BE CHOCKED (AS SHOWN) TO RESTRICT MOVEMENT DURING LOADING / UNLOADING AND TO HELP DETER 'DRIVE-AWAY' INCIDENTS. CHOCKS ARE TRIANGULAR RUBBER OBJECTS CHAINED TO THE BAY.

  • Front of Site: Ask a driver to explain the rules where they go whilst their vehicle is being loaded or unloaded.

THEY WILL ALSO ENSURE THAT ALL DRIVERS ARE WEARING THEIR HIGH VIS CLOTHING AND SAFETY FOOTWEAR BEFORE THEY RAISE THE BARRIER.

Fuel station

Rear of site (Dairy end)

  • Rear of Site (Dairy end)

Ask a shunter driver to explain the purpose of 'SALVO' locks and how they use and store them.
No SALVO keys should be left on top of trestles at any time.
SALVO LOCKS ISOLATE THE AIR ON A TRAILER. THIS MEANS THAT THEY CANNOT BE CONNECTED TO A TRACTOR UNIT (LORRY) AND DRIVEN AWAY. SALVO LOCKS MUST BE STORED IN THE METAL BOX / CABINET TO THE RIGHT OF THE BAY.

ENSURE THAT SALVO LOCKS ARE NOT STORED INCORRECTLY ON TRAILER STANDS

  • Rear of Site (Dairy end)

Ask a shunter driver to explain the purpose of trestle stands and how they use them.

TRESTLES PREVENT TRAILERS FROM TIPPING WHEN THE WEIGHT OF THE LOAD IS DISTRIBUTED TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE TRAILER. THEY ARE USED ON EVERY FREESTANDING MORAN TRAILER.

  • Proceed to Rear of Site (Dairy end)

Ask the 'Yard Man' operator how often milk drip trays (under loading bays) are washed and why

MILK DRIP TRAYS MUST BE EMPTIED AND CLEANED REGULARLY OR THEY WILL ATTRACT PESTS AND POTENTIAL INFESTATION. THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY SIGNIFICANT BUILD UP OF MILK INSIDE THE DRIP TRAYS.

  • Ask the 'Yard Man' to explain waste management procedures and ensuring housekeeping standards are maintained (no perimeter rubbish, waste near building etc) and employees understand how to segregate different types of waste.

LIDS ON WASTE BINS MUST BE CLOSED SO THEY DON'T ATTRACT PESTS. WASTE SKIPS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE YARD FOR WOOD, METAL AND GENERAL WASTE
