Site set-up and H&S Documentation

  • Is the site pack / RAMS / COSHH assessments appropriate for the work which is being carried out?

  • Are eating, changing and resting facilities suitable? Are they in a clean condition?

  • Are toilet and washing facilities in a clean condition and are they fully stocked?

Working at height

  • Has a scaffold handover certificate been issued by the scaffold contractor?

  • Is the scaffold in a suitable condition? Are all Handrails, toe boards and edge protection measures in place?

  • Is the working platform fully boarded?

  • Are scaffold access points fully boarded and are boards tied down?

  • Are scaffold inspections being carried out on a regular basis and are records kept?

  • Have all ladders been inspected and are they in a suitable condition? (Saddle, extension, step ladders etc)

Plant and equipment

General

  • Are tools appropriate for the job being carried out?

  • Is plant and equipment in a suitable condition? (Visual check)

  • Are hand tools in a suitable condition? (Visual check)

  • Are low voltage electrical tools being used and are trailing cables being avoided?

Lifting Equipment

  • Are inspection records available?

  • Are safe working loads displayed?

  • Is the suitable segregation in place to prevent access to moving parts?

Vibrating Equipment

  • Are workers aware of the risks from hand-arm vibration on site and what they need to do to avoid those risks?

  • Are HAVS monitoring sheets being filled out by operatives using vibrating equipment?

  • Has HAV exposure been reduced as much as possible?

Environmental

  • Are measures in place to control dust?

  • Are measures in place to control noise?

  • Are there facilities available for the segregation of waste?

  • Are there spill kits available?

  • Are operatives aware of the importance of waste segregation?

  • Is waste being stored and disposed of properly?

  • Are there any local environmental issues that have been brought to our attention since work has commenced?
