Harness and Lanyard Check

  • Are any Tel-Tails visible?

  • Cuts of 1 mm or more at the edges of the lanyard

  • Signs of surface abrasion across the face of the webbing or at the webbing loops

  • Signs of abrasion at the edges of the lanyard

  • Any damage to stitching (e.g. cuts or abrasion);

  • Are any knots in the lanyard, other than those intended by the manufacturer

  • Signs of chemical attack (often indicated by flaking of the surface or change in colour of fibres);

  • Any heat or friction damage (indicated by fibres with a glazed appearance which may feel harder than surrounding fibres);

  • Signs of UV-degradation (indicated by loss of colour and a powdery surface

  • A partially deployed energy absorber (e.g. short pull-out of tear webbing

  • Any contamination (e.g. with dirt, grit, sand etc) which may result in internal or external abrasion

  • Any damaged or deformed fittings (e.g. karabiners, screw link connectors, scaffold hooks);

  • Is there any internal damage to a cable-laid rope

  • Are there any damaged/bent buckles or clips

  • Are there any connectors or anchors?

  • Are all hooks and carabineers intact and in good order

  • Is the locking mechanism present

  • Are any connectors stretched, cracked or have signs of modifications
