Guidance For land classified as IHL 2, dumps must be located at least 10 meters from the outer boundary of the protection zone. This distance Maybe reduced if construction off the dump results in less excavation. For land classified as IHL 3, dumps must be located at least 20 meters from the outer boundary of the filter strip. This distance may be reduced if construction of the dump results in less excavation.

  • Rutting within the log dump is within acceptable soil disturbance limits ?. Guidance: The maximum allowable soil disturbance depth is 20 cm below the natural surface of the ground and a length of 10 meters.

  • Downhill Snig tracks enter the log dump from the side or below, or drainage structures are in place with outlets that discharge onto stable ground within 15 meters of the log dump. Guidance: 15m is considered optimal to allow run off generated on the Snig track to infiltrate into the general harvest area between the drain outlet and the log dump.

  • Bark is dispersed as far as practical throughput the logging area in heaps not exceeding 2 cubic meters. Guidance: Bark may be left on Snig tracks but does not replace normal snig track drainage.
