  • ITEMS TO CHECK:

    • Are all rungs/treads sound – no cracks, corrosion.
    • Are rungs/ treads free of grease/oil or otherwise slippery substances.
    • Are all rungs/treads well connected to stiles – no spinning.
    • Are stiles straight and of the same length– no warping, twisting or distortion.
    • Is there evidence of compression creases, splintering or cracks in timber parts.
    • If applicable – are spread chains the same length and showing no sign of corrosion or looseness at their fixing points.
    • If applicable – are spread cords/ropes the same length and showing no sign of corrosion or looseness at their fixing points.
    • If applicable – (on most metal ladders) – are floor pads fitted and sound without sign of corrosion.
    • On metal ladders – are all rivets sound.
    • If applicable -Are all hinges soundly fitted and do they open the ladder/steps effectively and been lubricated.
    • If applicable -Are any locks and sleeves in good order and sound.
    • Is there a weight loading stamp on the ladder
    • Is there evidence of filling (to hide cracks etc).
    • Is there any surface areas of the ladders that are covered by paint.
    • Looking generally over the whole ladder, does it appear on good order, with no missing parts where applicable, such as screws, rungs, floor pads, hinges, cords, chains etc.
