I. GENERAL

a. An all weather access road, well drained, free of holes with proper gravel base.

b. Grounds around buildings are well drained and sloped to allow proper maintenance of weed and grass control. Grass cut to 6” or less height around buildings. General appearance of buildings and surrounding areas is free of debris and appearance indicating proper maintenance.

c. Properly maintained loading chute with safety chain/bar (where applies) that allows ease of loading and unloading of livestock. Loading chute must be a minimum of 16 feet long and raise to 48”. Loading chute and walkways must have adequate lighting. Adequate number of sort boards are available.

d. Accurate scales maintained and accessible for weighing market hogs or selected gilts.

e. Facility is structurally sound. Roofing/insulation is maintained.

f. Properly maintained lighting and electrical systems. Electrical panel is grounded, all electrical components wired through junction boxes and all control covers are on secured.

g. Water wells and related plumbing system to building is operating satisfactorily to allow delivery of 16 ounces/30 seconds to every nipple.

h. Feed bins are weather proof, ladder is securely fastened to bin and feed bin lids are operational from the ground. Bin capacities adequate to receive full 24 ton load of feed. Mailbox is located on bin frame for feed/invoice tickets.

i. Waste disposal system has a state permit and is operating in compliance within this permit.

II. FINISHING FACILITY

a. Alarm system and Generator are operational. Systems have been tested in the last 30 days.

b. Automatic curtain drops/doors/fans maintained and operating satisfactorily. Curtains are free of holes, minimum 4” overlap, curtain pockets in good condition. Curtain machine has been lubricated and maintained. Fans free of dust and debris, belts adjusted properly, all shutters are in place. Fan blades are clean.

c. Heaters are in satisfactory condition. Dust buildup is at a minimum, gas lines checked for leaks, fan on heater is operational.

d. Approved wet/dry feeder is properly maintained. All feed lines are free of cracks and holes with support chains in place. Feed tubes are secured. All feeder adjustments are properly working.

e. One central controller/barn that controls curtains, heaters, fans and sprinklers. High/Low temps. And water consumption has been recorded.

f. Fence lines and gates are in such condition to assure animals are safely contained.

g. Concrete and/or floor surface will allow cleaning and maintained to satisfactory condition.

h. Waste handling system (tanks, valves, gutters, and pits) are maintained to allow for proper removal of animal waste capable of flushing as recommended.

III. SECURITY

a. Swine facilities are visible from owner’s/employee’s residence and or locked when not occupied by owner/employee.

b. Facilities are protected by night lights and/or perimeter of facility is protected by fence or ditch.

IV. HEALTH & SAFETY

a. Disaster plan is current.

b. MSDS sheets are filed and easily accessed for all hazardous material on the farm.

c. All hazardous materials are stored in area away from the reach of children or at risk to personnel.

V. OPTIONAL

a. First Aid Kit is available.

b. Fire extinguisher is located in a central office.

c. All electrical fixtures, switches and outlets are in waterproof boxes.

d. Safety glasses or goggles are available for application of disinfectant in barns.
