Hot Works Permit - Additional Details

General

  • A Hot Work Permit will be issued and complied with when works may introduce a heat source to an area of the site where there are combustible materials that cannot be removed from the area and where fire or explosion could occur.

Checks to be completed - Prior to the Start of Works

  • There is a SWMS for the task that has been approved by the Principal Contractor

  • Hot Work Equipment is in good condition and has current inspection/test tags

  • The fire protection/detection and air conditioning systems in the hot work area have been isolated or the detectors capped

  • Services/plant in or adjacent to the hot work area have been isolated/protected (e.g. cables, pipes, pits, drains, tanks, pressure vessels, etc)

  • Are there any flammable substances or explosive vapours or dusts in/near the hot work area

  • The hot work area has been cleared of and/or is free from all readily combustible materials or, if unable to be removed, they have been covered or protected by a non-combustible blanket, flame resistant tarpaulin, welding curtain or other means to prevent ignition from sparks, slag or heat

  • Specific respiratory protection will be worn in the hot work area (if required)

  • Ventilation/extraction units will be used in the hot work area (when required)

  • An ABE Fire Extinguisher (min 4.5kg) & Fire Blanket will be immediately available in the hot work area

  • Other fire fighting equipment (e.g. hose reel) is readily accessible (if required)

  • Flame arrestors are fitted and have evidence of recent test date

  • Barrier tapes, barricades, signage etc. to maintain exclusion zone from other workers (inc. below or next to hot work area)

  • Anti-flash screens erected to protect persons in area from welding flash

  • Is a spotter required during hot work activities or will the worker maintain own area (inc. work area clear of combustibles and regular observations of no smoldering/fire)

  • Additional precautions for grass fires others
