INSTRUCTIONS:

  • This Hot Work Permit should ONLY be used when the project owner or GC does not provide a permit for use!

  • This Hot Work Permit is required for any temporary operation involving open flames or producing heat and/ or sparks. This includes but is not limited to: Brazing, Soldering, Welding, and Chop Saws.

REQUIRED GENERAL PRECAUTIONS:

  • Has the owner / GC confirmed that sprinklers, hose streams, and extinguishers are in service, operable and available?

  • Is Hot Work equipment (torches, welding leads, etc.) in good condition?

  • Does the building have a fire detection/fire sprinkler system which needs to be shut down prior to Hot Work starting?

REQUIREMENTS WITHIN 20' OF HOT WORK:

  • Have flammable liquids, dust, lint, and oily deposits been removed?

  • Has the potential for an explosive atmosphere in the area been eliminated?

  • Are the floors swept clean?

  • Are combustible floors wet down, covered with damp sand or fire blankets?

  • Have other combustibles been removed if possible?

  • Have the combustibles been protected via metal shields or fire blankets?

  • Are wall and / or floor openings covered?

  • Is duct work capable of transferring sparks protected or shut down?

WORK ON ENCLOSED EQUIPMENT

  • Will enclosed equipment be cleaned of all combustibles?

  • Will containers be purged of flammable liquids / vapors?

  • Will pressurized vessels, piping and equipment be removed from surface, isolated, or vented?

FIRE WATCH / HOT WORK MONITORING

  • Will fire watch be provided during hot work?

  • Is fire watch equipped with suitable extinguishers which are functional?

  • Is the fire watch trained in the use of equipment and sounding the alarm?

  • Are fire watches present in adjoining areas, above and below where required?
