Section 1: Fire Prevention

  • A. Is smoking adequately controlled within the work environment?

  • B. Does electrical equipment appear free from damage, defects and is not overloaded?

  • C. Have combustible materials been reduced to a minimum and stored away from sources of ignition?

Section 2: Fire Safety Documentation

  • A. Are there adequate and up to date fire action notices displayed?

  • B. Are the names, locations and contact details of the fire wardens & deputies clearly displayed and up to date?

Section 3: Fire Alarms & Call Points

  • A. Are employees, students and contractors familiar with the type & sound of the fire alarm and the evacuation procedures?

  • B. Are all fire alarm call points clearly signed and easily accessible?

Section 4: Fire Escape Routes

  • A. Can all personnel (including disabled), reach a fire escape route easily?

  • B. Have Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) been established for employees/students with disabilities/requiring assistance?

  • C. Are fire escape routes adequately and appropriately signed?

  • D. Are fire escape routes (including stairs) kept clear of stored items and equipment?

  • E. Are fire doors protecting escape routes adequately maintained and functioning correctly?

  • F. Are fire doors closed (or fitted with approved devices e.g. maglocks or dorgards)?

Section 5: Fire Fighting Equipment

  • A. Is there at least one water based extinguisher and carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguisher in place?

  • B. Are all portable fire extinguishers readily accessible and access is not restricted by stored items?

  • C. Have portable extinguishers been serviced within the last twelve months?

Section 6: Actions

  • Please discuss and rectify any local issues with School Business Manager. Any building related issues requiring assistance must be reported directly to the relevant contractor on the FCAT preferred suppliers list in the first instance
