  • Are all drains and manhole covers easily identifiable/painted/marked? Long drains should be marked at intervals

  • Are spills kits well stocked and in their correct position?

  • Do fire escape doors open easily? Physically check they operate correctly

  • Are pallets positioned safely on racking? Guidance pallets should be straight, square and undamaged with a pallet overhang at the front of 25mm - 50mm (1 - 2 inches)

  • Are emergency exit routes and escape doors clear and accessible?

  • Are fire extinguishers free from obstruction and can be accessed easily?

  • Extinguishers fully charged (where gauge is fitted) and pins in place,

  • Extinguishers are mounted and show no signs of damage or corrosion

  • Is equipment and pipework free from obvious or excessive leaks? If not, have the leaks been reported and planned in for repair?

  • Are first aid kits and eye wash stations stocked and in good order?

  • Is waste being put in the right bin/skip or other bulk container?

  • Are fire action notices or fire plans displayed at final exits and other key points

  • Assembly points are clear and free form obstructions such as parked vehicles

  • Are flammable chemicals being stored correctly in secure cabinets with signage

  • Are flammables kept to a minimum. Storage should not be excessive and away from ignition sources

  • Are gas cylinders stored away from buildings and within secured containers

  • Are cables and leads tidy and free from damage

  • Smoking area in good order and no signs of smoking in other areas?
