9 MEWP Inspection

This section is used to record daily inspections of the registered MEWP/s. These checks are to be carried out daily, any serious Major issues or defects which would endanger the operator or site operatives must be rectified at once and the MEWP not operated.

Carry out the inspection on all of the above registered MEWPS in accordance with the below checklist and manufacturers instructions.
Does the MEWP operator have the correct training to operate this MEWP with proof on site?
Has the MEWP a Thorough examination certificate dated within the last 6 months and on site?
Is the machine free from any visible damage to the body work and any guards in position and secure?
Are all fitting, attachments & safety devices intact & free from defects?
Is the stopping mechanism working OK with no excessive roll on?
Is the horn, lights, reversing alarm (if fitted), warning beacons, electrics all working with no apparent defects?
Are all handrails Gates and extending platforms in tact with no signs of apparent damage
Is the steering working correctly with no signs of excessive play?
Are all engine oil, transmission, hydraulic, fuel & coolant levels all topped up with no apparent leaks?
Is the condition of hydraulic components i.e. hoses in GWO?
Have you looked in the engine Compartment for any obvious defects, drive belts, air filter indicator etc?
Have you lubricated and greased the machine as per maintenance schedule and manufacturers requirements?
Are all manuals/stickers relating to the safe working operation of the machine in place & readable?
Is the tyre pressure (if Air) and tread satisfactory?
When lowering the MEWP does the lowering mechanism lower steadily
When in operation is the MEWP always situated on firm level ground?
Is the harness attachment point intact and secure (cherry picker)?
Can the MEWP be operated without risk of damage to the operator or others working nearby which would be affected by the machine? if not indicate X and name of person informed on reverse of the sheet?
At time of inspection is this MEWP deemed to be in good safe working order? -

Check the following for damage, correct functioning, missing, modified or incorrectly fitted parts.
Refer to the operator’s manual for methods and further guidance:
1. Ensure the place of work is suitable for the MEWP.
2. Has the MEWP a Thorough examination certificate dated within the last 6 months and on site?
3. Are the operator’s manual and safety instructions on the MEWP and legible?
4. Are labels & decals in place and legible?
5. Electrical components, wiring and cables.
6. Ensure battery packs are in place, securely latched and properly connected.
7. Hydraulic power unit, reservoir, hoses, fittings, cylinders and manifolds. Is the hydraulic oil level ok?
8. Drive and turntable motors and torque hubs.
9. Boom wear pads, tires and wheels.
10. Limit switches, alarm and horn, lights, beacon and alarms.
11. Nuts, bolts and other fasteners.
12. Platform entry mid-rail and gate.
13. Cracks in welds or structural components. Dents of damage to the machine.
14. Structural and critical components are present and all fasteners and pins are securely in place.
Harness attachment point intact and secure (cherry picker).
15. Function checks: On the ground controls: emergency stop, boom functions, tilt sensor, auxiliary controls.
16. Function checks: At the platform controls: emergency stop, horn, footswitch, machine functions, steering, test drive and braking, limited drive speed, drive enable system, auxiliary controls.

Is the Tyre pressure and tread adequate?
Are all warning signs visible and intact?
Are all warning lights working correctly including flashing beacon?
Are all lights working correctly?
Are all brakes working correctly?
Is the horn working correctly?
Is the roll over bar and seat belt in place and working correctly?
Are water levels correct?
Are all oil levels correct including the hydraulic oil, water & Battery?
Is the steering correctly aligned with no excessive play ?
Is the driver adequately trained with proof of training on site?
Does the dumper have a current (within the last 12 months) and up to date Pre delivery inspection (PDI) on site?

Inspect all of the registered excavators in accordance with the below checklist and manufacturers instructions.
Does the Excavator operator have the correct CPCS training to operate this Excavator with proof on site?
Has the Excavator a certificate of thorough examination dated within the last 12 months and on site?
Is the machine free from visible debris with clean tracks and all guards in position and secure?
Are all fitting, attachments & safety devices intact & free from defects?
Are all mirrors (if fitted) all working and visible through?
Is the horn, lights, reversing alarm, warning beacons, electrics all working with no apparent defects?
Operation of capacity indicator (SLI) & safety level bar (Ops position)?
Are all engine oil, transmission, hydraulic, fuel & coolant, & Battery levels all topped up with no apparent leaks?
Is the condition of hydraulic components i.e. hoses in GWO?
Have you looked in the engine Compartment for any obvious defects, drive belts, air filter indicator etc?
Have you lubricated and greased the machine as per maintenance schedule and manufacturers requirements?
Are all manuals/stickers relating to the safe working operation of the machine in place & readable?
Are the correct pins in place and secured to the bucket or breaker?
Is a Quick hitch bucket used on the excavator? If so does it require a pin in place to ensure safety?
If so is the pin inserted each time you use the quick hitch?
Do you ensure all operatives working with you are clear from the slew area and below the bucket whilst operating?
Can the Excavator be operated without risk of damage to the operator or others working nearby which would be affected by the machine?
A Bow shackle with secure retaining pin and a swivel shackle is to be used at all times when carrying out lifting operations with the Excavator, are you using these? if you don’t have these DO NOT Lift with the excavator, list the issue below contact your site manager.

a. When the excavation has no battering or support, inspections must be conducted daily before each shift starts.
b. When the excavation has battering or is supported, inspections must be conducted at least once in any 7 days.
c. The inspecting person is to provide a copy of this report to NCL’s Project Manager within 24 hours of the inspection or immediately if the inspection identifies safety risks.
d. A copy of this report must be held within project files for at least 3 months. -
