Crane Main Isolation

  • LOCATE the crane Main Isolator and clear access

  • VISUALLY check the crane structure for correct alignment and cracks at the weld joints

Controller

  • CHECK that all controls on the controller are clearly identified

  • ENSURE controls are not damaged

  • Ensure the controller is the correct one for the crane you wish to operate (remote controlled)

Hook

  • ENSURE the hook has a safety catch fitted and it's working correctly

  • ENSURE the hook is not damaged

  • LOCATE the MRC on the hook

  • ENSURE the hook's MRC sign matches that of the CRANE

  • ENSURE hook spins freely

Rope

  • CHECK there are no kinks, frays or broken wires

  • ENSURE reeving on the sheaves correctly

  • ENSURE reeving on the hoist correctly

Sheaves

  • CHECK that sheaves are rotating freely and are not damaged

Manually Check

  • OPERATE all crane movements by pressing respective button North, South, East, West Up or Down, ensuring controls operate correctly

  • OPERATE joist by pressing up or down buttons

  • RUN HOIST up and check limit switch

  • ALL CRANE movements work correctly, as is labelled to do so

  • CHECK the operation of the hoisting and travelling brakes

  • TEST the operation of the emergency stop button on the pendant/remote control

Below the hook inspection

  • ENSURE slings have no defects, cuts, nicks, damage, chins run freely and no links stretched, hooks on chains are not damaged and safety catches work, fabric slings are not frayed or burnt. REMOVE any damaged or DEFECTIVE slings and report immediately.

  • ENSURE slings have correct colour inspection tag and have appropriate MRC sign attached for the load to be lifted

  • ENSURE any equipment to be attached to the hook is inspected and compiles to below the hook inspection criteria
