Entrance to facility

Shop Area

  • Is the floor area clear of material/ debris?

  • Are emergency signs illuminated and exits free of obstructions/equipment?

  • Is a 36" wide clear space maintained around electrical panels?

  • Extension cords are not being used as perm inmate wiring?

  • Extension cords are free from duck tape, electrical tape, etc. and ground pins are in place?

  • Are areas such as the top of cabinets, lockers and underneath desk and clear of stored materials to reduce the potential for fire?

  • Areas that are present specific hazards to employees (i.e High Voltage, noise, chemical storage) posted signs identifying the hazard and access requirements?

  • Are ground pins in place on electrical equipment ?

  • No evidence of smoking in unauthorized locations?

  • Trash not allowed to overfill in waste containers?

Storeroom Area

  • No heavy items stored on top racks in storerooms?

Eye Wash Stations

  • Are eye wash stations free of obstructions that restrict their use?

  • Are eye wash bottles free from dust, safety seal intact and not past expiration?

Chemical Storage

  • Are flammable storage cabinets maintained and free of other combustible materials?

  • Are chemical containers (including temporary or small quantity containers for employee use) properly labeled with the name of material of hazard information? <br>Containers must be clearly labeled, tagged or marked with the identity of the hazardous chemical.

  • Are spill carts properly maintained with supplies?<br>

Hazards Waste

  • Are all chemical waste products contained and marked?

Gas Cylinders

  • Are valves closed and cap protection devices installed?

  • Are gas cylinders stored upright with proper securement (i.e. Chain, Strap, or cable ) to a stationary building support?

  • Are cylinders stored in a well ventilated area and at least 20' from combustibles?

  • Is there proper signage (i.e. Flammable, oxidizer or toxic)?

  • Keep oxygen cylinders 20 feet away from fuel gas cylinders, such as acetylene?

  • Are empty cylinder separated from full ones?

Drill Press

  • Is waste containerized and free from any leaking onto ground?

  • Does drill have proper bit guarding? Also face shielding?

Grinders

  • Do side guards cover the spindle, nut and flange and 75% of the wheel diameter?

  • Is the work rest used and kept adjusted to within 1/8-inch of the wheel?

  • Are grinding wheels the appropriate RPM rating to the Grinding motor?

  • Before grinding wheels are mounted, are they ring tested

  • Is grinder properly mounted?

  • Is proper PPE being used when grinding? (Face shields - goggles)

  • Does grinder have an individual on off switch?

Ladders

  • Ensure all ladders have proper signage and that steps/rungs/braces/pivot points/ side-rails/ safety feet/ wheel axles/ and nonskid services are intact?

Break room areas

  • Break area maintained and kept clean?

  • Appliances kept clean and in good condition?

  • Restrooms kept clean with adequate supply of hand soap and other sundries?

Fire Extinguishers

  • Are appropriate fire extinguishers available in all work area?

  • Are fire extinguisher locations properly marked? (Red dot or white sign with red printing pointing to extinguisher)

  • Are fire extinguishers in a "Keep Clear Area" away from obstructions?
