Note: This is a general walk around inspection for operators of Aerial Work Platforms. This does not eliminate the need to READ and
UNDERSTAND the specific machine’s operator’s manual. -
Start at the hydraulic compartment and work your way around the machine back to the starting point. Ensure that both emergency stops are pulled out
(disengaged), turn the key to the on position, (do not start machine).

Aerial Work Platform
-
1. Hydraulic Fluid Level—between marks on site glass with axles and boom in the retracted position
-
2. Hydraulic Manifold—no leaks or broken, frayed or disconnected wires or hydraulic hoses
-
3. Fuel Level—adequate for intended purpose
-
4. Ground Control Station—all function switches return to neutral position
-
5. Tires & Rims—pressure correct (see tire sidewall or decal on chassis), lug nuts in place and secure,overall condition, (no cuts, gouges, exposed ply)
-
6. Chassis Retaining Pins—all lower chassis pins are in place and secure (i.e. steering, axles, etc.)

7. Steering Linkage and Cylinders—secure, no damage or apparent hydraulic leaks
-
8. Structure—no collision damage, cracked welds, etc.
-
9. Engine Oil—within marks on dipstick.
-
10. Battery—connectors tight, no frayed or broken wires.
-
11. Tilt Indicator—no signs of loose wires or broken pieces. With ignition key in the on position, gently pull on tilt alarm to confirm operation.

12. Main Hydraulic Pump—no leaks, hoses not cracked or worn

13. Boom Structure—check for obvious physical damage, ensure that all retaining pins are in place and secure. Check all hydraulic cylinders, hoses, and related fittings. Check all boom extension wear pads for snug fit and excessive wear.

14. Platform—rotator (no leaks, bolts secure), structure (no damage, no cracked welds), all function control switches return to neutral position.

15. Function Test—start machine and test operation of all controls from the ground control station, including emergency stop.

16. Auxiliary Power Test—shut off machine with primary boom raised, leave key one, ensure emergency stop is disengaged, engage primary boom lower control, flip up auxiliary power switch and hold toggle in on position, pump should engage and boom will start to lower, do not use unless in an emergency situation or testing

17. Platform Control Function Test—with engine started, test all platform controls, including the auxiliary power function.

18. Test Oscillate Axle Lock Out (if applicable)—refer to the operator’s manual

If any problems or concerns are noted, DO NOT use machine and call your supervisor.
