#3 Confined Spaces

  • Visual Inspection: Is the Gas Detector operational with a current calibration date?

  • Is a Spotter or stand by person used to monitor the safety of those working inside the confined space?

  • Do Spotters have a reliable system of communication with workers in confined space?

#5 Hazardous Substances

  • Is there a Safety Data Sheet for all of the Hazardous Substances on site (including fuel: Petrol Diesel or LPG) - Identify 5 Hazardous Substances on site and then check to see if there is an SDS for each.

  • Have all workers been trained to safely transport, store, handle and use agrichemicals?

  • Have all workers been trained in hazardous substance emergency response procedures (ERP)?

  • Verbal Inquiry: Select one SDS at random and ask a worker: Why is the substance hazardous, How can it harm them? How do they work safely with the substance? How would they respond in an emergency spill situation?

  • Is there a Hazardous Substances Spill Kit on Site?

  • Visual Inspection: Is the Spill Kit easily identified, accessible and located near a likely spill location?

  • Visual Inspection: Is the Spill Kit well maintained and ready for use: tidy, well stocked with no rubbish in the kit?

  • Are hazardous substances safely stacked and stored?

  • Are liquid hazardous substances stored within a bunded area or on a bunded pallet?

  • Is there LPG stored on site?

  • NZ Only: Is there more than 100kg of LPG stored on site?

  • Are LPG cylinders stored upright in a structure that protects them from falling over and/or accidental impact?

  • Is there sufficient shade cover for outside workers i.e. buildings, covered areas, tents, canopies, screens and/or natural shade?
