Safety

Basic Fundamentals

  • Obtains proper pallets

  • Dismounts jack just past half way point on pallet to pick from - Arm length away from jack - X spot

  • Parks, "coast", correct zone right next to the pick location - Avoid unnecessary steps

  • Parks equipment within 2 feet of bay for easy selection of item - This allows for passing by other associates. Reduces the steps taken which equals time and energy.

  • Avoids parking in the cross aisles or "coasting" into, to reduce congestion.

  • When parking alongside another selector, makes sure other selector is aware and makes eye contact with you.

  • Operates pallet jack from the same side as the last pick location - This reduces the amount of steps taken.

  • Uses cut-through aisles whenever advantageous

  • Walks with machine on short distances (2 bay or less) keeping feet clear

  • Does not undermine product in pick slot - Picks from top layer on pallet

  • Uses the high (rabbit) Speed bottom when traveling distances greater than two pick-bays in between selections

  • Obtains multiple cases when it is physically appropriate- never strains to pick up additional cases

  • Picks all cases on one side of aisle before crossing to the other side at each parking point

  • Avoid walking around the pallet to place cases whenever possible

Stacking

  • Place case on pallet once - Does not re-handle cases unless absolutely necessary

  • Keeps liquids and glass containers right side up - Also keeps pies and cakes right side up.

  • Uses case hooks to obtain hard to reach cases - NEVER places feet on product below.

  • Selects recouped cases when appropriate

  • Builds secure pallets, interlocking cases whenever possible - Maintains good zones on pallet.

  • Maintains case alignment with pallet perimeter as cases are added - Product can NEVER overhang the edges of the pallet.

  • Any time selector has two identical cases going into the same zone, he/she places them side by side

  • Places splits in boxes and on correct pallet

Pick Sequence

  • Reviews display screen before moving and travels directly to the next pick location

  • S-Scan- Looks for bar code as they approach slot - MUST scan bar code on the product, NEVER the slot location unless no bar code present or doesn't scan

  • I-IDENTIFY- Identifies product is correct and verifies case quantity and press enter to print labels (if case qty insufficient short product(s) at this time (i.e. MULTI or CWTs)

  • P-PICK- Selector grabs the product off the top layer - Picks product immediately after scanning to lesson the possibility of being distracted and making an error

  • P-PLACE- Selector places the product in the appropriate zone on the pallet - Take scare to observe heavy to light

  • L-LABEL- Once product is placed attaches label FIRMLY to FRONT of case - At the time of placement, start looking for the next pick. Labels multiple picks after the count has been verified - FRONT/FLAT/FIRM

  • E-EVERY case is picked and labeled in the same manner everytime

  • Upon reaching an un-stocked pick slot, follows replenishment procedures for department - Does not climb or wait for a drop but continues selecting and places short labels on back of downtime sheet.

  • Selector works at a reasonable pace all night

  • Follows correct procedure for entering catchweights labels correct boxes with correct catch weights

  • Selectors scans ahead by constantly surveying S.O.S. unit to recognize upcoming pick locations

End of Batch

  • Selector is using label box to keep all label backings

  • Parks pallets in correct alignment on dock

  • Places float labels and pallet labels on front of each specific pallet

  • Selector presses ENTER to obtain next batch after float labels print out and before leaving aisle
