Emergency Procedures and Equipment

  • Are there emergency procedures available (environmental, fire, evacuation plans, oil or chemical spill, etc)?

  • Do the emergency procedures cover the requirements for working in remote locations?

  • Are Low Voltage Rescue kits in good condition & readily available? (6 monthly inspection/test)

  • Are first aid kits properly stocked & readily available and is there a qualified first aider on site? (6 month inspection)

Working at Heights

  • Are staff working at heights above 2m, wearing a safety harness suitable for remaining attached at all times?

  • Are ladders in good condition and being used properly?<br>(4:1, tied off or footed, etc)

  • Do Personnel working at heights secure tools?

  • Has a competent person erected scaffolding and is it adequate? (note for scaffolding over 4m - person must be certificated)

  • Are there handrails/toes boards on platforms wherever there is fall from one level to another?

Chemicals

  • Are chemicals clearly labelled and appropriately stored?

  • Are Safety Data Sheets available on the work site?

Electrical Safety

  • Do all electrical tools and equipment have current inspected tags?

  • Are 240V portable electrical tools in use protected by earth leakage devices?

  • Are temporary construction switchboards suitable (waterproof, lockable, affixed, isolated etc)?

  • Are electrical leads appropriately protected from mechanical damage and moisture?

  • Are only wood/fibre glass ladders used near live apparatus?

General

  • Are spare safety earths stored appropriately (not lying about)?

  • Have safety earths been tested in last 3 years?

  • Where personnel are required to have a licence or Certification to carry out a particular activity, are those licences/certificates currently valid?

  • Are confined spaces sign posted and secuered?

  • Are trenches and excavations appropriately controlled?

  • Are personnel wearing high visibility clothing around operating mobile plant?

  • Have trailing earths been attached where required?

  • Is machinery being operated within safety clearances from any conductor (according to voltages e.g. 3,6,8)?
