  • Confined spaces are identified by a competent person, appropriate signage applied and there is a register (or similar) which identifies confined spaces.<br><br>Critical Risk ref - 3.1

  • Work planning processes consider whether the requirement to enter a confined space can be eliminated.<br><br>Critical Risk ref - 3.2

  • Workers involved in confined space work have obtained competencies in accordance with the Australian training framework (or international equivalent) for; - Working in a confined space - Atmospheric monitoring of confined space - Supervision of confined space work.<br><br>Critical Risk ref - 3.3

  • Prior to entry a confined space permit is completed and authorised by a competent person. The permit includes an assessment of the hazards and specific controls required to manage hazards, tracking of persons entering the Confined space, rescue plan requirements, emergency communication/contacts.<br><br>Critical Risk ref - 3.5

  • Prior to entry, testing of atmospheric conditions by a competent person utilising calibrated equipment is required. Atmospheric testing will include: Oxygen, H2S, CO, and LEL. Where there is a risk of Atmospheric hazards, monitoring of the Atmosphere will be continuos.<br><br>Critical Risk ref - 3.6, 3.9

  • A competent confined space sentry/standby person shall be located outside of a confined space at all times when the confined space is occupied. The sentry shall be trained in atmospheric monitoring and will be supplied with means of communication with entrants.<br><br>Critical Risk ref - 3.8

  • Any systems likely to influence the atmospheric or physical status of a confined space are identified, purged and/or confirmed isolated before entry into the confined space.<br><br>Critical Risk ref - 3.4

  • Sentries have an effective means of two way communication with confined space entrants and a method of activating an emergency response.<br><br>Critical Risk ref - 3.10

  • Confined space entrants wear a harness where required to facilitate rescue in the event of an emergency.<br><br>Critical Risk ref - 3.7

  • Confined space work is controlled as per the requirements of the above. Where rescue equipment has been established it is appropriate and would be effective for rescue if deployed.<br><br>Critical Risk ref - 3.5

  • Conduct interview with supervisors and relevant workers are aware of the procedural requirements of planning, monitoring and undertaking work in confined space.<br><br>
