  • Clean equipment before inspection to make it easier to see any damage or defects.

  • Any signs of excessive wear or abrasion?

  • Any melting or charring of any part of the sling?

  • Any holes, tears, cuts, or snags?

  • Any broken or worn stitching in load-bearing splices?

  • Any knots in any part of the sling?

  • Any signs of corrosion?

  • Any discoloration and brittle or stiff areas on any part of the sling, which may indicate chemical or UV damage?

  • Any fittings that are pitted, corroded, cracked, bent, twisted, gouged, or broken?

  • Is the sling safe to use?

  • Please remove any slings from use if they are damaged and not safe to use. Please raise an action for the office to archive the faulty sling from the Asset System. Please note how you have removed the chain from use (Disposed off, returned to office, etc.) When it is determined by the inspector that a sling is worn out or damaged beyond use, it should be tagged immediately DO NOT USE.
