C Service Checklist

CAB ITEMS & SAFETY CHECKS

  • Check condition and operation of seat belts

  • Check driver seat functions

  • Check windscreens, side mirrors and mirrors

  • Check wipers and washers

  • Check speedometer operation and illumination

  • Check audible warnings and cab interior lights

  • Check horn operation

  • Check driving controls, buttons or switches

  • Check steering wheel – movement / free play

  • Check mechanical / air handbrake operation

  • Check service brake pedal operation

  • Check hand operated air / vacuum brake control

  • Check low air warning device

  • Inspect or replace cab pollen or cab filter

  • Check cab tilt pump fluid level

  • Check cab mounts and cab air bags for condition and movement

Road Essential Lights

  • Check head lamp alignment and function

  • Check fog lamp alignment and function (if equipped)

  • Check indicators, hazards and markers lights

  • Check rear work lamps, position and function

  • Check reverse and number plate lights

  • Check stop lamps position and function

ELECTRICAL

  • Check and clean battery terminals of corrosion

  • Check battery level

  • Check vehicle earth straps and connections

Airleaks

  • Check footbrake operation

  • Check air leaks in brake, auxiliary and suspension

  • Jack up all axles, remove wheels and drums, inspect all brake hardware components and replace if required

Fuel Supply & Return Hoses

  • Inspect fuel supply / return lines from the tank

  • Inspect tank isolators

  • Check tank bracket torque

ENGINE

  • Replace air filters and date filters

  • Check intake pipes, hoses and clamps

  • Check service brake operation

  • Emission / Smoke (visual check)

  • Sample engine oil and change engine oil filter

  • Change engine fuel filter including fuel water separator

  • Check for any oil leaks

  • Check for any fuel leaks

  • Check for any air leaks (intake, brakes, suspension)

  • Replace or inspect engines crankcase filter

  • Inspect fan hub for wear and support V belts, tensioners and fan hub

  • Check crankcase hoses for any leaks

  • Check radiator and CAC for fouling or damage

  • Check air compressor pressure setting or cut out

  • Check for any exhaust gasket leaks, loose turbo studs or nuts

  • Test coolant concentration and level, replace if required

  • Check for any coolant leaks on header tank, piping, cap and radiator body

  • Inspect / replace vibration dampener every 2 years if required

  • Carry out valve adjustment as per specifications

  • Check DPF operation and burn off operation if applicable

  • Replace SCR dosing filter and air dryer filter if applicable

Steering

  • Check steering linkage and driveline joints

  • Check steering box for smooth operation

  • Check power steering for leaks

  • Check / top up power steering fluid level

  • Change steering fluid filter every 2 years

GROUND LEVEL ITEMS

  • Remove axles, jack up and shake test all wheel bearings and check for movements. Check wheel bearings, hubs, hub caps, studs, nuts

  • Check tyre condition front and rear

  • Check for hub seal leaks

  • Check tyre pressure and adjust to specification

  • Check spare wheel tyre pressure (if fitted)

  • Grease chassis and driveline

  • Check condition of mudguards and spray suppression

  • Check and top up windscreen washer fluid

  • Check cab doors and steps

  • Inspect for any cab / panel damage

Differentials

  • Change differential oils

  • Take differential oil samples

  • Inspect for leaks or damage

  • Change differential oil filter

  • Check operation of diff locks, check interlock and diff locks for bypassing o rings

Chassis

  • Check chassis cross member and rails

  • Inspect for cracks or broken bolts

  • Check engine mounts

  • Check exhaust mounts clamps and piping

  • Check suspension hinge points and fastening

  • Grease chassis driveline

  • Check centre bearing and uni joints

  • Change air dryer filter

  • Adjust clutch

  • Inspect transmission breathers

  • Check for free play in input and output bearings

Suspension

  • Check springs, pins and bushes

  • Check suspension trunnion bushes

  • Check and report on shock absorbers

  • Check torque rod and pan hard rods

  • Check for air suspension leaks

  • Check and if required adjust ride height

  • Drain air tanks for moisture

Transmission / Clutch

  • Check for any transmission oil leaks

  • Check drive shafts, flanges, bolts, bearings for wear

  • Replace transmission oil filter

  • Take transmission oil sample

  • Check clutch fluid level

  • Adjust clutch if required

Brakes

  • Check boosters chambers for corrosion, leaks and check handbrake spring

  • Check piping, reservoirs, valves, couplings, wheel cylinders, leaks, corrosion

  • Adjust front and rear wheel bearings every 2nd C Service

  • Check auto slack adjusters

  • Record brake lining thickness in mm - If any lining is 6mm or below flag in comments below

VEHICLE TEST

  • Road test vehicle

  • Brake test on road

  • Brake roller test (attach recordings)
