Chainsaw

Weather

  • Is the wind stable for tree felling? If you observe the tops of trees swirling in a circular pattern this indicates an unstable wind pattern and cutting should cease/not begin until wind patterns stabilize.

PPE

  • High Visibility vest worn.

  • Protective Visor / Helmet / Earmuff Combo worn.

  • Chainsaw gloves worn.

  • Chaps being worn (pant coverings).

  • Protective Eye glasses.

  • Composite/steel toe boots worn.

Chainsaw

  • Chain brake is operational and has full range of movement. Chain brake when applied prevents chain movement (test before turning on chainsaw by trying to move chain with gloved hand while chain brake is applied)

  • Chain brake is applied before starting chainsaw.

  • I have a clear opening in which to start the chainsaw on the ground.

  • Chain is sharp, there are no missing teeth or cracked teeth.

  • Chain has adequate tension.

  • Oil is full.

  • Fuel is full.

  • Bar tool is on self or with spotter.

I Acknowledge that

  • I have read through my chainsaw manual, have successfully completed a CSA approved chainsaw course and have read through EarthEx's Chainsaw Standard Operating Procedures document.

  • I have a zero blood alcohol level and that I have not ingested any legal or non-legal substances that may impact my cognitive and/or physical capabilities to safely operate a chainsaw including prescribed medication that may impact my cognitive and/or physical capabilities to operate a chainsaw safely.

  • I am aware that the maximum tree felling diameter is 14 inches and I am to leave a winch-sturdy tree a minimum of every 25 meters when vegetation allows.

  • I have a partner with me that is acting as my spotter.

  • I am wearing all my required PPE, my spotter has a radio, first aid kit, tourniquet, ERP and EMS location sheet on their person.
