Beer Line Cleaning

 • Is a safe system in place for cleaning beer lines?

Does the PCBU use an on demand mixing system for the beer line cleaning?
Normally water powered with a dedicated line in the cool room.

If the PCBU uses a manual system is the system purpose built for the cleaning task?

Must not be a modified Keg.

Does the PCBU use a pump or gas/ air pressure to dispense the beer cleaning chemical and washout water.

Water should be used to flush lines prior to beer being put back in. Litmus paper used to test for residue of chemical in washout water. Will also have a soapy feel.

The number and length of beer lines and the height of the taps above the cellar influences the range of appropriate systems.

The beer line cleaning system should avoid the use of pressurised vessels, the need for pumping, and manual dilution or mixing of concentrated hazardous chemicals,
e.g. use an inline proportional mixing/dilution system, which takes the chemicals directly from the transport containers. This avoids the risks from handling the
concentrated chemicals and is thus a higher order control.

Where this is not reasonably practicable, the system as installed should limit the risks in handling the concentrated chemicals, e.g. only require one mixing operation per cleaning cycle, mixing vessels located and designed to limit chemical spill/splash during the mixing/dilution process.
