Housekeeping

  • Floors and walk paths are kept clean and clear, to prevent slip, trip, and fall hazards

  • Electrical Panels are clear of debris/materials to allow full access

  • Tools and equipment are stored in such a way, so sharp edges do not interfere with walkway areas

  • Scrap material cleaned up, so to prevent any injuries

  • Minimal dust on ledges, ceilings, and walls (potential explosion hazard)

Fire Prevention

  • NO SMOKING signs posted near combustible materials/chemicals

  • Fire Extinguishers are inspected and in compliance

  • Fire Extinguishers are marked with signage above, indicating where each Fire Extinguisher is located

  • Fire Extinguishers are clear of debris/materials to allow full access

  • Shop and Office have a sufficient amount of Fire Extinguishers

  • Used/oily rags are stored properly

  • Fuel Cans and other combustible chemicals are stored properly

Electrical

  • Electrical cords and plugs are in safe working condition, and follow A-Core's Assured Grounding Program

  • GFCI are used

  • Electrical tools are in good, safe, working condition

  • Breaker panels are labeled appropriately

  • Shop lighting is sufficient & all lights are working properly

Shop - Mechanic, Tools, Flammables, Fabrication, and Storage

Mechanic(s)

  • Defective equipment is promptly reported, labeled, and repaired

  • Only qualified personnel perform repairs

  • LOTO is followed during repairs

Mechanic Tools

  • Tools free from cracks and or broken parts

  • Jacks and lifts inspected prior to each use

  • Jack stands and safety locks, inspected and used correctly

Fabricating Equipment / Work Area

  • Eye protection is used in Fabricating areas (Welding Hood, Face Shields, Safety Glasses)

  • Bench Grinders have machine guarding installed and within spec

  • Drill Press has machine guarding installed during use

  • Chop Saws have proper guarding installed

  • Hoses are regularly inspected for argon, oxygen, and acetylene gases

  • Gas Cylinders are legibly marked

  • Gas Cylinders are secured upright and have valve protector caps on (if not in use)

  • Oxy/Acetylene cylinders stored 20' apart or with a minimum of 5' high, 1/2 hour rated fire barrier between them

  • Gages and flash arrests are working properly

Powered Industrial Trucks / Material Handling

  • Shop has adequate equipment to minimize employee's lifting heavy or awkward objects

  • Forklift is inspected and documented prior to each use

  • Forklift Operators have current license to Operate Fork Lifts/Boom Lifts

  • Forklift has functioning horn/backup alarm

  • Forklift has functioning seat belt and is used during operation

  • Brakes on forklift capable of stopping safely when fully loaded

  • Emergency brakes work to prevent vehicle or equipment from moving when unattended

  • Forklift is in safe operating condition (seat belt, forks, horn, lights, etc.)

  • Forklift attachments are stamped by an Engineer (Forklift trailer attachments)

Pallet Racks / Shelving

  • Pallet racks are anchored down to the slab

  • Material on pallet rack that may be at risk of falling is tied down

  • Shelves are not overloaded

  • Materials stored on racks do not create a potential hazard (struck by, lacerations, etc.)

Above Office Storage / Loft Areas

  • Is there above office storage/loft areas?

  • Guardrails are installed to prevent falls

  • Safe access point used

  • Load rating posted

Office

  • Fire Extinguishers located in the Office / Kitchen area

  • Office is clean and organized

  • Diamond Room is clean and organized

  • Lunch room is clean and orderly
