Notes for Assessor: The trainee should display knowledge and skills to check livestock condition, assess feed availability and provide supplement feeding where required, report and maintain records. Trainees should be aware of animal welfare and behaviour, safe workplace and sustainable environmental practices associated with livestock production. The work is likely to be carried out under close supervision with regular checking within enterprise guidelines.
A. Accurately determines the quantity and type of feed to be fed out
B. Correctly identifies specific feed type by reading the bag and label.
C. Identifies any requirements or restrictions outlined on the product.
A. Correctly identifies group of animals to be fed.
B. Checks the health status and condition of the animals being fed.
C. Identifies animals that are unwell or not eating and records/ reports their numbers.
D. Checks water quality and quantity.
E. Cleans troughs as required.
F. Calculates amount of feed left over and adjusts feed level as required/ instructed.
G. Puts out feed in troughs.
H. Removes/ disposes of all rubbish.
I. Records amount fed out in feed record sheet.
A. Displays safe manual handling of feed.
B. Displays safe livestock handling techniques.
C. Uses appropriate PPE.
