Surface Preparation

  • Surface free of the following: Dust, oil, grease, loose particles, remnants of curing compound, waxes, coatings, organics contaminants and weak concrete layers

How has the surface been prepped? Specify:

  • Dry abrasive blasting, wet abrasive blasting, steam cleaning, angle grinder, high pressure water blast

  • Amplitude of surface profile to be between 0.5-1mm (60 grit sand paper)

  • Minimum corner radius of 25mm

Treatment of cracks

  • Cracks greater than 0.2mm repaired using resin injection

  • Cracks less than 0.2mm coated with bridging layer of epoxy putty (Masterbrace 4000 Adhesive)

  • Provide photographic evidence of surface preparation Pro

  • Add media

Environmental Conditions

  • The FRP strengthening system can only be installed when all of the following conditions are met

  • Ambient temperature between 5-30 degrees Celsius

  • Concrete surface temperature between 8-35 degrees Celsius

  • Relative humidity below 85%

  • No rain or run off, including leaks and seepage through bridge decks that may affect adhesion

  • Surface temperature of substrate is 3 degrees higher than dew point temperature

  • Moisture content of substrate below 8%

Inspection Criteria

  • The following components of the FRP system shall be routinely inspected over the course of the installation

  • Changes in colour of FRP strengthening system

  • Debonding

  • Peeling

  • Blistering

  • Cracking and crazing

  • Excessive deflections

  • Provide photographic of Installation of FRP system

  • Add media

Pull of Adhesion Testing

  • Mean adhesion pull of strength of 1.5MPa with no individual result less than 1.35MPa

  • Minimum concrete compressive strength required for FRP strengthening is 17Mpa

  • Adhesion testing conducted at the following intervals: 1 per 75 lin.m of or repair or 1 sample per 10m^2
