Monthly Checks

  • Have all the staff been made aware of the fire procedures?

  • Are all the fire escape routes and doorways free from obstructions and identified? (e.g. running person route signage and emergency doors)

  • Is the assembly point clearly identified and unobstructed?

  • Are the fire extinguishers wall mounted or situated in a suitable stand and in their correct position?

  • Do all extinguishers have signs indicating their type and safe use?

  • Are all flammable liquids kept in a secure flammable locker?

  • Are all highly flammable and compressed gases stored in a well-ventilated area away from sources ignition?

  • Is the fire safety log book up to date? (e.g. fire evacuations, alarm tests, etc)

  • Is there any evidence of objects that may fall from height?

  • Is the general structural appearance of the roofing acceptable? No evidence of damaged to the roofing components? Eg weather damage

  • Are the walls and ceilings in a good state of repair and without signs of damage?

  • Are the floors generally free from obstruction in good condition and unlikely to cause a trip, slip risk??

  • Are the floors and walkways free from cable, hose, and other trip hazards?

  • Are the steps and staircases of a sound construction and free from defects?

  • Are the handrails properly fixed and of sound construction?

  • Are the step edges indicated and highlighted to prevent trips?

  • Do the mains electrical circuits, sockets and fittings appear to be in good serviceable condition?

  • Is the ventilation in the toilets working?

  • Are the toilets maintained in a clean and hygienic state? With hot and cold water, soap and drying facilities?

  • Is the seating provided of good construction and in good repair?

  • Are the fridges operating within normal parameters?

  • Is the general appearance of the building/s acceptable? (Including any asbestos monitoring required).

  • Are there automatic door closures fitted to fire doors and are they working correctly - test doors and record in your fire log book?

  • Are all the doors of sound construction and free from defects?

  • Are all windows of sound construction and free from defects?

  • Is the lighting fully operational and free from defects?

  • Are the facilities for staff to have hot and cold drinks operational?

  • Is there any evidence of smoking in the facility?

  • Is all the staff aware of the first aid procedures?

  • Is there sufficient first aider cover? (trained personnel)

  • Is there a first aid box/boxes/eyewash bottles kept in a clean, hygienic state and restocked as required?

  • Are any employees showing signs of occupational illness?

  • Are any employees showing signs of dermatitis (hand inspections)?

  • Are all hazardous chemicals stored in appropriate containers and stored in appropriate lockable storage facilities?
