Presence of Asbestos

  • Workers treat stuctures/plant as asbestos containing material if they are unsure of the content and manage accordingly?

Training

  • Training records of all persons performing removal work are available (i.e. Asbestos Safety Induction Training and B Class Removal)

  • Workers have completed CPCCDE3014A Remove Non-friable Asbestos Unit of Competency for any asbestos pit removal and disposal or any other asbestos related work (e.g. Pit break INS, rodding and roping)?

  • Workers have completed Client specified Asbestos Awareness Induction (if required)?

  • Workers have completed CPCCOHS1001A Construction Induction Training (White Card)?

Licences and Documentation

Hygiene

  • Workers are not eating, drinking or smoking in asbestos work areas?

  • Has an adequate decontamination area been set up in the asbestos work area?

Prohibited Equipment

  • Compressed air/high pressure water equipment is not being used on any asbestos containing material?

  • There are no dust generating tools and equipment in use in asbestos work area?

Health Monitoring

  • Medicals for workers who carry out licensed asbestos removal work, other ongoing asbestos removal work or asbestos related work and is at risk of exposure to asbestos when carrying out the work are current (at minimum every 2 years)

  • Air monitoring is conducted if required (friable asbestos removal or greater than 10 square metres of non friable asbestos removal)

Tools and Equipment

Hose or Bucket of Water

  • On site and being used to continuously wet down any ACM being disturbed?

  • Is there evidence that wetting down has taken place?

Ground Sheets

  • 200um think plastic sheeting used in work area?

  • Ground sheet disposed of as asbestos waste following use?

Disposable Bags

  • Bags are 200 micron rated, clear plastic and no larger than 1200mm x 900mm?

  • 25mm of soil is being taken and bagged from any section of work site where asbestos has been disturbed and potentially contaminated the soil?

  • Bags only filled to 50% capacity, double bagged and goose-neck tied?

  • Bags are not used for other rubbish or waste?

Hand Tools

  • Are all hand tools on site manually operated?

Asbestos Vacuum Cleaner

  • Do asbestos vacuum cleaners on site comply with the Class H requirements in Australian Standard AS/NZ 60335.2.69 Industrial Vacuum Cleaners or it's equivalent?

  • Are asbestos vacuum cleaners used in accordance with manufacturers instructions?

  • Are vacuum filters in compliance with the requirements of AS 4260-1997 High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters - Classification, construction and performance or it's equivalent?

Other

  • Do workers have access to adequate tools and equipment on site to conduct asbestos work safely e.g. disposable cleaning rags, sealant, gas detectors, duct tape?

Signage and Barricades

  • Asbestos signage and barricades are adequate for the works being undertaken and clearly indicate the area where the asbestos removal work is being performed?

  • Signs are placed at all of the main entry points to the asbestos removal work area where asbestos is present and comply with 1319-1994 Safety signs for the occupational environment?

  • Use of barricades prevents access to the asbestos removal site and removal work area (minimum tape barricading to be used for non-friable asbestos removal works?

  • Pedestrians are redirected away from the asbestos removal works that are taking place adjacent to pathway?

Disposal Containers

  • Asbestos disposal containers are clearly labelled with "Danger: Asbestos Do not break seal" or similar warning?

  • Asbestos disposal containers are lined with plastic (minimum 200um thickness)
