Purpose of the visit

  • The purpose of today's visit is to ensure that you have all the required documentation with respect to Managing Asbestos in your school, immediately available for anyone visiting site.

  • The inspection will consist of a visual inspection of the Asbestos Register.

Asbestos File

  • 1 - Is a physical copy of the Asbestos Register, available at the Main Office/Reception?

  • Ensure that the following documents are included in the register:

  • 1.1 - Asbestos Management Plan.

  • 1.2 - Premises Asbestos Register Report.

  • 1.3 - Premises Non-Asbestos Register Report.

  • 1.4 - Premises Asbestos Action Plan.

  • 1.5 - Site Plan Showing ACM/Presumed ACM Locations.

  • 1.6 - Contractor Asbestos Register Record Of Inspection Form.

  • 1.7 - Managing Asbestos in Schools & Public Buildings Guidance Note.

  • 1.8 - Completed - Asbestos Controls & Management Receipt Return.

  • 2 - Have all staff who might come into contact with ACM's during the course of their work, been notified of its location/assumed location?

  • 2.1 - How has this information been communicated to staff?

  • Inform school that the HSE are currently carrying out inspections of schools containing Asbestos and that they require a physical copy of any documentation at the time of their visit.

  • Remind school that they should have recently received all the relevant files electronically and that they need to print them out and file accordingly and ensure that the file is immediately available at all times.

  • Health & Safety Advisor to escalate to Assistant Environmental Health Manager (Health & Safety).
