  • Q: You are patrolling level 1 dock areas where you notice a woman breast feeding sitting on the ground at dock 2. There are trucks attempting to reverse in to the loading dock and she is in the way. Is this ok? A: It is fine to breast feed in the centre as long as there is no OH&S risk; In this instance due to trucks trying to reverse in the guard should direct the lady back into the mall to a parents room or mall furniture wherever she feels most comfortable and explain the risk to her and her child by being in the loading dock areas.

  • ACCESS - AFTER-HOURS - CONTRACTORS
    All contractors working within the centre are to ‘Sign In’ using the No Wait Blue Glue Key Watch system which is located next to the security office.
    Contractors working for WSCM shall receive the full contractor’s induction at Westfield Hornsby if they do not hold a current induction card. Contractors working for retailers are not required to undertake a contractor’s induction. All contractors will be issued with a Westfield contractor wristband from the No Wait system. This is to be worn and displayed on their wrist for easy identification on the day of work.
    Master keys or swipe passes will be issued from the No Wait Blue Glue Key Watch system.
    No Contractor shall be allowed to work in a secure area of the Centre without a security guard unless permission has been granted from the Risk &Security, Marketing or Centre Manager. Contractors attempting to gain access into these areas after hours are to be refused entry unless prior arrangements have been made.
    ACCESS - AFTER-HOURS - TENANT/RETAILERS
    If a tenant/retailer requests after-hours access to the Centre, the nominated manager should be contacted by a Security Officer to verify access.
    If there is no person in the tenancy to verify access, you will need to contact the Site Security Manager, or if unavailable, Centre Management. If authority cannot be gained access is to be denied.

External Patrols External Patrols - Suspicious Person/Vehicles While on general patrol, security officers should be alert for any suspicious activities. These include persons driving under or wandering in the parking lot without apparent purpose or in unusual areas. Vehicles parked with occupants for extended periods of times, individuals tampering with vehicle wheels, door locks windows, bonnets and boots. Security officers should record pertinent descriptive information (individual or vehicle, including license plate number). Security officers should immediately summon the police if suspected or verified criminal activity is occurring (including vandalism, theft from vehicle or theft of vehicle). Security officers are not expected to investigate to the point of placing themselves in danger at anytime. External Patrol - Centre Property While on external patrols, security officers should be alert for and report via the Centre Management Register or similar communications: * Malfunction of or inoperative parking lot lights. * Traffic flow problems, or damage signs * Flooded area * Defects in the parking lot or sidewalk surfaces * Rubbish accumulation or unauthorised dumping * Damage to or defacing of exterior Centre surfaces * Damage to landscape * Fire exit doors to be secured if open * Faulty fire exit signs If any of the above conditions represents a safety hazard, security offer should promptly notify Centre Management and, if warranted, place barricades and/or warning signs around hazards.

  • No Chase Policy <br><br>It is the responsibility of each Security Officer to ensure that persons wanted for, or suspected of having committed, or being involved in any incident, are not chased either in or around the Centre, *unless the life or safety of any person is imminently at risk*. <br><br>No person should be followed from the Centre property line under normal circumstances..<br><br>For the purpose of this policy a chase shall be considered running after a person, or following in a vehicle, in a manner that raises concern from onlookers. <br><br>Unless the like or safety of any person is imminently at risk, no security officer is permitted to pursue or follow persons either on foot or in a vehicle off the Westfield property.<br><br>

  • Shoplifting <br><br>It is the responsibility of each security officer to generally provide assistance to non major retailers who have arrested, or are in the act of arresting any person for stealing from their store. <br>Assistance generally will only be afforded to majors involving violent offenders or those who may be required to be issued with exclusion notices. <br><br>THE ARRESTING PERSON IS THE RETAILER WHO WITNESSED THE OFFENCE, NOT THE SECURITY OFFICER..<br>The security officer has no legal powers to physically detain the offender. <br><br>Encourage the retailer to obtain the name and contact details of the offender in the event the offender leaves prior to the police arrival. The security officer can only assist by remaining in the store to ensure that there is no breach of the peace. <br>It is the responsibility of the retailer to hold the offender on their premises whilst waiting for police attendance. If at anytime the offender wishes to leave the store prior to the police arrival, the security officer shall verbally attempt to persuade the offender to stay and wait the arrival of the police. Under no circumstances are security officers to physically prevent the offender from leaving. <br><br>*At no time shall the offender be left solely in the care of the security officer* it shall be the responsibility of the retailer to gather the evidence to produce to the police. If at anytime a further offence is committed by the offender in the presence of and witnessed by the security officer, the security officer may take additional action against the offender. <br><br>If the security officer has cause to take additional action against the offender, the original arresting retailer must still remain and wait the arrival of the police..<br><br>
