Daily Playground Check

  • Metal gate has removal lock in good work condition?

  • Is the under surfacing under and around the equipment, and extending at least fall zone (1.5m - Early Childhood; 2.5m other) from equipment base?

  • Is fall zone free of rocks, stones, glass or other sharp objects?

  • Any other problems in the playground area?

  • Playground area/equipment is free from:

  • Playground equipment is secured into the ground securely?

  • Fence is secured on all sides (mesh material pulled tightly with no gaps or sags), if applicable

  • Outside faucet is covered with padding?

  • Mulch/compacted sand is at least 30cm deep around all fall zones

  • Sand box and other play equipment is free of mold/mildew?

  • Are sandpits free from unwelcome debris (glass, animal droppings, bottles)

  • Water drains well from the playground to discourage standing puddles

  • All wooden apparatus are free of splinters, nails or broken parts

  • Is area free from any tripping hazards (tree roots/remains of equipment/fallen tree branches/uneven under surfacing/damaged flooring)?

  • Shrubbery is free from weeds

  • Are all tyres (set/fixed/used in equipment) non-steel belted types?

  • Was area free from other problems during the audit?

Foundation: All supporting posts are inspected to ensure their stability is maintained

  • No excessive movement is present

  • Cracks in wooden structures do not run the full length of the post

  • The ground/surface around the posts are not exposed

  • Structures are not rotting/rusting away

Outside Areas - DAILY

  • Entrance/Exit free of clutter

  • Entrance/Exit gates in good working order

  • Perimeter Fencing and Gates

  • Damaged vandalism etc

  • Footpaths, Surface damage e.g. potholes

  • Raised paving, loose paving slabs, damage

  • Litter

  • Adverse weather conditions, Rain, Heat, Standing Water

  • Playing Field, clean of clutter and in good condition

  • Discarded needles, Broken Glass

  • Are there any timber equipment (tables) which have excessive warping or splintering?

  • Are all end sections of tubular steel capped?

  • Is protective paint (timber and steel) or coating in good condition?

  • Is equipment free from excessive rust, or is there evidence of broken members or cracked welds?

  • Are all plastic, fibreglass, sail, tarp components free of cracks, damage or wear and tear that would effect their durability or safe use?

  • Are shackles, wire ropes and locks operating smoothly and lubricated if necessary?

  • Are all the sport equipment in play area are in good condition (table tennis, goalie nets)?

  • Are the footpaths clear and clean?

  • Are there traffic signs outside? Are they all in good condition? Size correct? Easy to see and read?

Maintenance/Workshop Area

  • Has the last inspection been viewed?

  • Have the outstanding actions been addressed?

  • Storage spaces even and uncluttered?

  • Entry and Exit walkways kept clear?

  • Walkways around workshop kept clear and in good condition?

  • Are liquid spills removed quickly?

  • If storage space is outside, is there rails around the open area to seperate workshop and public space?

  • Workspace area/yard clean and tidy?

  • Work height correct for the type of work and the employees?

  • General condition of racks and pellets?

  • Materials stored in racks and bins wherever possible?

  • Storage designed to minimise lifting problems?

  • Lights at gates are in good working order?

Machines in Workshop

  • Work bench clear of rubbish?

  • Tools not in use kept in safe place?

  • Hand tools in good working order?

  • Power tools in good working order?

  • Is there any sharp edges?

Building

  • School Safety and Security Systems

  • Alarms, CCTV functioning

Building Fabric

  • Doors and Windows, window restrictors

  • Check the external fabric of the school

  • Outside drains Not blocked, clean and covered

Equipment

  • Benches, posts and guard rails are in a good condition

  • Sandpit: Good condition, sand pit covered, no sharp edges

Bins

  • Bins located at suitable points around site?

  • Bins emptied regularly?

Access: All structures with access to a higher level are inspected to ensure all:

  • Hand and foot holds are present and in good condition

  • Non-slip treads are well maintained

  • Guardrails, handrails, barriers are in good condition (they are not missing/bent/broken/loosened)

Weekly Fire Alarm Checks

  • Call Point Number (On each floor of a building,
    No more than 30 metres from any point in the building,
    No higher than 1.4 metres above the floor,
    In a visible & accessible location ,
    Additionally, in areas identified as high-risk)
